I really enjoy the variety of experts brought on the show and the contradictory nature that ensues. The follow up questions are usually spot on. However, the June 1 episode was disappointing. The expert “rebuked” those who speak in absolutes; such as “con-men and religious figures, and they may be the same”… I was really hoping the follow up question would have been, “is that an absolute statement?”, rather than a chuckle. As a faith-driven person who also studies Biology, this comment (and lack of push back) was frustrating and is part of the foundation for division among humanity. What are absolutes if not standards to hold things to ( the sky is blue, grass is green, etc)? He is correct that science should never speak in “absolutes“ for permanency, but when science has repeatedly shown that proteins are the building blocks of life; isn’t that an “absolute according to current human understanding of a complex living system ?” Honestly. The expert on this episode spoke in a lot of established absolutes… so is he a con-man, a religious figure, or a human earnestly seeking how life functions according to the information available during his lifetime?
The balanced advice is fantastic. Simon’s dedication to deep delves into the science is admirable. This is the best food advice listening I have found so far, and the research Simon shares into the physiology of why things work is fascinating. I also really appreciate that Simon stays open to new ideas and has even changed his guidance based on the newer research coming out. Also, it is so refreshing to listen to guys talking who can actually admit to and express an entire range of emotions.
Are you looking for accurate and useful health and nutrition information? With a decent dad joke thrown in now and then? Do you want to eat in a way that’s better for the planet? Listen to Simon Hill! And read his book, “The Proof is in the Plants.” I love how Simon cuts through all the noise and uses scientific studies and research to give us sound, sensible advice. The case for a plant-based diet has never been more convincing!
We’ve eaten whole-food plant-based for ten years and I’ve read everything I can find to improve our health. My goal is to keep us living independently. Even though I’m very well informed I often learn something helpful from this podcast. Simon Hill interviews top-notch research-based experts who make a real difference for us.
Simon should stick to plant-based eating and health as advocated in his book. Lately, he’s just been pushing too many supplements and gadgets (mattress covers, smart watches, blood tests, etc) that it’s pretty sickening. He’s obviously getting kickbacks. His scientist/health professional guests are usually quite good and that’s the only reason I may keep listening.
