What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

Thanks for the excellent piece Layne - I went through a similar trajectory of belief about sugar, when really, “it’s the calories stupid”. I have to admit, I was about to scream if I heard you say “isocaloric” one more time, as “isocaloric” and “McDonalds” rarely appear together in real life - but you finally got to it at the end, that in a free living environment we eat too much as a population, and so we are obese. Which leads to “WHY” so much over-eating relative to the 1950s - likely a combination of economics (cheapness), ultra processed food as shown so well by Kevin Hall at NIH and Samuel Dickens in the UK, and less activity. Knowing the big rocks of “WHY” can lead to actionable behaviors. Would love to hear your thoughts on a follow up piece, the science of - “If sugar alone didn’t cause the obesity crisis, then what did?”

BillHealthspan · Nov 2025

I’ve been following Layne’s social media for years but only recently discovered his podcast. Wow. If only this were required listening for the general public right now. Layne does an incredible job of educating the general public in an entertaining and understandable way. He also hits all of the “hot topics” right now with what the research and evidence ACTUALLY means and not just stuff that would make him go viral. He has truly calmed so many of my fears as a new mom and health enthusiast, myself. My biggest takeaway from listening: the world is not as toxic as people say it is. And it’s a wonderful time to be alive. Thanks for all you do, truly! Please keep educating the public with your expertise, Layne!

I never miss an episode. As a mom, I feel like so much is thrown at me from all sides as far as food and fitness advice. I appreciate his no nonsense, research based approach. I also appreciate that he keeps his language clean, so that I can recommend this podcast to a wide range of people in my life! Layne has been an inspiration to me personally in my fitness and lifting journey, which began 2 years ago. I so appreciate everything he does on his social media platforms.
