Health & Fitness · Gretchen Rubin / The Onward Project
by Gretchen Rubin / The Onward Project
Gretchen Rubin is HAPPIER, and she wants you to be happier too. The #1 bestselling author of The Happiness Project and Better Than Before gets more personal than ever as she brings her practical, manageable advice about happiness and good habits to this lively, thought-provoking podcast. Gretchen’s cohost and guinea pig is her younger sister, Elizabeth Craft, a TV writer and producer living in Los Angeles, who (lovingly) refers to Gretchen as her happiness bully. I am a long time listener and this is my comfort podcast. I love to hear all the things that Gretchen & Liz talk about- even better when they share listener feedback & commentary.
I’ve been listening regularly to this podcast for the last seven years and it has been nothing short of life-changing. The Four Tendencies and other easy-to-remember psychology lessons, Happiness Hacks, the “Treat yourself like” series, Clear The Decks episodes, and everything else. It’s brilliant AND relatable; there’s not very many podcasts out there like this!
I’ve been reading Gretchen Rubin long before I started listening to her podcast. I consider her my favorite modern day philosopher. While Gretchen and Elizabeth offer practical tips for a happier healthier life, they also create the atmosphere of a calm and happy life, with some nuggets of life changing wisdom as well. I find myself quoting them often, whether it’s the ever practical look behind you while leaving your seat or the deeper stuff like “Be Gretchen” which is a reminder to be yourself in a situation don’t try to fit into what you think someone else wants. I listen on my drive to the gym it’s become a great habit.
If you’re looking for practical ways to improve your life, definitely give this Podcast a try. The focus is on knowing yourself better and what works for (or against) you without preaching a one size fits all solution. Gretchen & Elizabeth are so enthusiastic and thought provoking and all their suggestions are certainly attainable. Of all the Podcasts I listen to, this one is my favorite!
I’m giving this podcast a happiness demerit for their partnership with BetterHelp, a company that has faced lawsuits for unethical practices, including mishandling user data and questionable therapist qualifications. It’s frustrating to see Happier promote a service with such a problematic track record, especially when mental health care should be handled with care and integrity. Please do your research when it comes to sponsors you give glowing reviews about. I seriously doubt Gretchen and Liz would use BetterHelp for their own therapy.
I used to love to use this podcast to motivate and life hacks. It has become increasingly filled with ads. The most egregious was Amazon AI health - not only the exploitation of their workers but to support this further expanding with healthcare and AI.
