Dr. Patrick breaks down very technical scientific studies in an objective way to make their content digestible to the layman. She helps to see practical applications of the knowledge revealed in the studies in a very accessible way. She brings incredibly illustrious and knowledgeable guests to her show to help expand understanding of emerging health science. Her style of presentation is very enjoyable while also being extremely informative. She does not sugarcoat the fact that much of the science is still emerging and not settled. She presents both sides of disputed theory so the listener can apply his or her own reasoning and intuition. I can’t recommend this podcast more highly.
Episode #107 had some interesting points, but I noticed a couple of inaccuracies that I think are important to correct. First, the explanation of Inspire was misleading — it does not simply ‘zap the tongue when you stop breathing.’ Inspire is a medical device that stimulates the hypoglossal nerve to keep the airway open during sleep, which is a very different mechanism. Second, the comments about electronics exposure and sleep were inaccurate. The speaker suggested that blue light from cell phones has no effect on sleep, but scientific studies consistently show that blue light suppresses melatonin production and disrupts circadian rhythms. This is why experts recommend limiting screen use before bedtime or using blue‑light filters. I believe clarifying these points helps listeners better understand both the medical technology and the well‑established science around sleep hygiene.
Appreciate Rhonda’s ability to nerd out on a topic and translate her knowledge into usable information for average humans. She is a trustworthy source of health and nutrition information in a sea of misinformation.
Love the deep dives and clarity around health subjects that are everyday concerns. As a coffee drinker I loved the deep dive on coffee as it is often maligned yet I always feel better and as one who has dodge diabetes and the big C I appreciate this information. An excellent episode!
