The first episode I chose to listen to was the episode on the role of diet in injury prevention with Dr. Ian Seels. I was incredibly disappointed with the misinformation being shared in this episode, given that low carb diets for endurance athletes have not proven beneficial according to more recent research. Dr. Seels also states in the episode that many elite long distance runners and athletes are low carb, and that is also false. At best, this episode is an inconvenience, and at worst it can be detrimental to someone’s health and well-being. I don’t want to give the podcast one star based on a single episode, but I am going to proceed cautiously given the quality of the episode with Dr. Seels.
I appreciate the motivation behind the podcast as a whole and enjoy most of the content. My experience listening to it, however, is sometimes spoiled by the appearance of dinosaurs who continue to espouse a counterproductive and even harmful low-carb dietary dogma. The most recent episode (at the time of writing) marks at least the second time in the past several months that I've had to abandon an episode within 10 minutes because I could not stand to sit through the utter nonsense that these clowns spewed into the airwaves. The science is very clear that a high-carb diet is beneficial for both performance and health of serious endurance athletes – assuming that is indeed the podcast's target audience. Broadcasting this kind of misinformation is totally irresponsible and makes me question the credibility of anything I hear on this podcast. I am sure many listeners with a history of disordered eating find it very triggering to hear some quack with a fancy title or degree demonize and entire macronutrient. I know Brodie is very open to his listeners' feedback, and I greatly respect his decision to delete an episode a few months ago based on its reception. I hope he will do the right thing and discard this most recent episode with Isn Seels, as well as any other past episodes promoting the same destructive, cultish dietary fad.
I have been dealing with two back to back big injuries the last 4.5 months (stress fracture and ligament tear) and have been listening to this podcast nonstop from the beginning while in recovery mode. Thanks to Brodie and guests I’ve started taking seriously: strength training, protein intake, rest days, cross training (swimming+cycling)- so hopefully when I return to running I can stay injury free and be a stronger runner than before. Thank you for making all of this information so readily available!!!
Brodie thank you for providing runners with the stools and education to manage their injuries. I was a frequent injury sufferer but since I started listening to your podcasts and following your recommendations I’ve been injury free for the last three marathon training cycles. I ran two world major marathons weeks apart and ran two personal best. I true testament to your guidance and education. Your podcasts are truly valuable to all runners looking to reduce injury risks. I cannot say enough good things about your and your character. Your credibility and your professionalism is superb. I cannot say enough good things nor thank you enough for your services, education and your time spent educating runners. This podcast is LIFE❤️
