What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’ve found a trail running podcast that is good for my mental health?? Is that too far? Maybe… but… I find myself listening to Free Outside consistently to take a break from how serious the world is right now. I love the stoke, simplicity, pervasive kindness, and nerdy humor. The occasional philosophical digressions are thoughtful and interesting, and it’s rare to find a perspective that values both growth / competition and adventure equally. Weirdly helping to heal my relationship with competitive sports (again, probably too far!) while fueling my imagination for what’s possible. Supporting the Trevor Project and the occasional compassionate nod to **the way the world is**, without getting too sucked into ranting is a great balance and helps a lot. Thanks Jeff for overcoming your fear of talking to bring this to others. Hooray.

rising sign? · Jul 2026

Jeff is a great podcast host, and Free Outside rises to the top of the ultra landscape. Sometimes a little silly, always introspective, it strikes a nice balance between the pro perspective and the perspective of those of us who are just really good at working out. I stumbled across this podcast in its early days and was immediately intrigued. Jeff’s voice and delivery had me convinced Erlich Bachman had taken up ultramarathoning. Who knew? I stayed for the regular, thought-provoking content.

Richard_McQ · Jul 2026

Such a great podcast and thank you for keeping it real. I really appreciate you discussing events and situations, calling out the bs and speaking out about some of the ridiculous things in the industry 🤩 Keep it up and don’t hold back! You are the change maker. So glad I found this🙏🏻

WildMilesAhead · Jun 2026

Jeff’s authenticity and curiosity is a welcome reprieve from the countless running bro and boss babe podcasts that fail to connect with the average person. At time when the sport is blowing up, he keeps it real. No-frills conversations that focus on the people behind the sport and what makes them tick. The ultra world needs more people like Jeff.
