Mental Health · Dave & Chris
by Dave & Chris
Dopey Podcast is the world’s greatest podcast on drugs, addiction and dumb shit. Chris and I were two IV heroin addicts who loved to talk about all the coke we smoked, snorted and shot, all the pills we ate, smoked, all the weed we smoked and ate, all the booze we consumed and all the consequences we suffered. After making the show for 2 and a half years, Chris tragically relapsed and died from a fentanyl overdose. Dopey continued on, at first to mourn the horrible loss of Chris, but then to continue our mission - which was at its core, to keep addicts and alcoholics company. Whether to laugh at our time in rehab, or cry at the worst missteps we made, Dopey tells the truth about drugs, addiction and recovery. We continually mine the universe for stories rife with debauchery and highlight serious drug taking and alcoholism. We also examine different paths toward addiction recovery. We shine a light on harm reduction and medication assisted treatment. We talk with celebrities and nobodies and stockpile stories to be the greatest one stop shop podcast on all things drugs, addiction, recovery and comedy pathfinding the route to the heart of the opioid epidemic.

Finally someone who's not afraid to talk and laugh about the war stories, while skillfully including all kinds of recovery nuggets! Dave is a superstar inspite of losing his co-host and many friends to addiction. So much chutzpah!
I got into this show the first year of sobriety. 2017 was an amazing season of change for me. And that rough first year it was so helpful having Dave and Chris keep me company. I stuck with it and now have a family of my own and a life to be proud of. I’ve traveled to Dopeycon twice now and intend on going every year as long as it’s a thing. Seeing Dave, Ray, Allen, Linda, and all of the other characters in person was exhilarating and intimidating. I’m so glad to have gotten to know all of you…. It has helped change my story for the better.
Dave is by far one of my top 3 favorite podcasters. He is a breath of fresh air in the recovery world. Dave has the ability to shine light on what the life is like for a serious drug addict, even the grossest, lowest, absolutely bizarre moments of people’s stories, with a lighthearted and enlightened approach. Sometimes when I listen to this podcast, it makes me wanna get high for maybe a glimpse of a second, but then there’s always the reminder of what is lost in the high & what can only be found by some in the sober moments of their life. Thank you always Dave & don’t forget the way you talk about Chris will forever be one of the most impactful aspects of each episode.
Funny, relatable, sometimes absurd, sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking and always human … this is the best podcast out there! If you want to understand the dopiness of addiction, the hope of recovery, or you just want to hear interesting stories and conversations hosted by a master interviewer who isn’t afraid to be himself, then this is the podcast for you! I’ve been listening since the summer of 2018 and I can’t get enough Dopey! Keep it up Dave, stay strong Dopey Nation, and toodles for Chris!
