10% Happier is my go to source for understanding and positive concepts and practices. Dan Harris is approachable, thoughtful, curious and respectful - not only to his guests, but also to this mysterious process of learning to enrich and improve our own lives.
I’ve been a devoted follower of Dan Harris since reading his first book in 2014… He is an amazing interviewer! The topics he covers are wide ranging, super helpful, and presented in an irreverent self-deprecating, yet sincere, fashion….all of which make it a super fun listen! I highly recommend giving it a go!
I’ve listened to Dan for many years. He’s smart, funny, brings on great guests and is obviously someone who really cares about making himself a better person and giving us the tools to do the same for ourselves. Highly recommend you give it a shot even if you’re not a “meditation person!”
I’ve been listening for almost a year now, through job loss, a break up, moving, and helping my parents during health struggles. This is a solid show that helps ground me, and gives actionable & realistic advice. Combined with therapy, it’s been a literal life saver!!!!
I generally love the conversations on this podcast - I find them helpful and insightful. This review is about the guided "bonus" meditations, however, which I think could be improved significantly if the speakers slowed down their speech. I've found that the guides speak way too quickly and as a result don't invite a sense of calm, but instead provoke irritation and anxiety in me. I do try my best to stay grounded, centered, focused, and non-reactive in spite of it all, but it's challenging in the midst of the constant chatter. I had to check my phone settings to make sure I didn't have 1.5x speed turned on. I do think there is potential for the guided meditations to be great, as the content of what the speakers say is valuable, but the experience would be greatly improved if they took time to pause between each sentence.
Be prepared to have the podcast interrupted with 25% ads, including suddenly an ad for a new podcast on exorcism demons amidst discussing mindfulness (?!) and problematic therapy apps, that I can’t imagine the host would ever promote. It’s just really disappointing and in bad taste - clearly their profit interest is greater than trying to spread the word about the actual content/interviews. It’s especially bad when they follow up a 5 minute meditation with an ad that automatically starts playing.
