I must have fallen into an alternate reality or into a multi-year coma… how have I only NOW found this podcast. Great topics that balance practical guidance and real topics that the “every-athlete” can relate to. 10/10 would recommend to you, your friends, and training partners! Hell… even your grandparents might dig it! Share it!
If you are like me, who is constantly on TrainingPeaks tweaking and tuning training your upcoming training schedule, and always thinking about what you can do better to prepare for your next endurance event or race, then this is your soulmate podcast. Peter and Molly deep dive on a wide variety of endurance athlete training topics, everything from how to think about your race schedule priorities and balancing training and racing with the realities of life, to whether or not you should try eating that spoonful of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) before your next race. They also share their extensive personal experiences with MTB & trail running racing and coaching, and interview a variety of guests that bring new and interesting perspectives on training, nutrition, science, and psychology.
This is truly one of my favorite, never-miss-an-episode, podcasts. As someone who loves to run/ride/yoga/etc. but is in their mid-late 30's, with a job and children, I have not thought of myself as "an athlete" since high school. I started listening to this podcast a year ago when Molly was a guest on the Trail Running Womens podcast, and she sounded so smart, hip and accessible that I was immediately intrigued. Then last summer, I attended my first women's cyclocross clinic and the leader encouraged everyone to check out the Consummate Athlete podcast. After over a year of tuning in weekly, I am a full fledged fan girl. I feel more confident in my goals, more able to refer to myself as an athlete, and more inspired to try new sports (in January I started Mountain Biking after getting a tibial stress fracture from marathon training). As a tangential sidenote, I also enjoy the relationship dynamic between Molly and Peter, who host the podcast together (and are also married). When they do intros, they sometimes disagree on topics or points -- but disagree in such a refreshingly healthy yet genuine way. Respectfully disagreeing with your partner is an art and these two seem to have it down. Hope anyone interested in cycling, running, women's health, or healthy marital dynamics checks them out!
Almost every episode they come out with feels relevant to me as a hobbyist endurance athlete. And I’ve talked with Molly personally and she is just wonderful!
