I found this podcast while looking for resources on how to be a dad for a son. What I found was something far deeper than that.
While I had all the confidence and pride in being a girl dad, when I found out our next was a boy the panic button was pushed. How could I be a role model for my son as a man? What I found in this podcast and community on the DEA is a group of men sharing openly and honestly their struggles to catch excellence.
A man is not someone who works out everyday, plays sports, cracks open a cold one with the boys, etc. While one can certainly partake in these activities, a man is curious, a man provides the psychological safety, a man is honest about his feelings, a man shares often and deeply, a man is leader no matter how large or small in their actions.
The experts Larry get provide incredible insight with their own stories and make you think or explain topics in ways that make you go “oh! I get it now!”. But it’s the Winsdays that will connect you to your fellow man. That anyone can take a step forward and change.
I have made improvements already and have weathered so many more conflicts and moments as a better human and I truly have Larry and the men off DEA to thank for that!
Keep the podcasts coming Larry!

As Zig Zigler said “of course motivation isn’t permanent, but then neither is bathing; but it is something you should do on a regular basis” Whenever I need some motivation to step up my dad game Larry delivers. Even episodes that I’m skeptical I’ll learn much from Larry and his guests over deliver on. I love the host’s humbleness and authenticity. He isn’t perfect, and doesn’t pretend to be close to, but he is intentional and dedicated to his family and helping dads everywhere.

When I first learned about the dad edge and mastermind from a colleague of mine, I was skeptical. The way he described it was intriguing, but made me curious, and also seemed so odd. I mean the thought of sitting down on a call, sharing my feelings, struggles, and frustrations with a total group of strangers who I have never met, but are truly invested in me and wanting to help me get better just didn’t make any sense…so my colleague told me start with the podcast, give it a week, and I promise you won’t regret it…well a week turned in months and now years, and been made part of my weekly schedule to listen and learn.
At that time, when I first learned of the podcast and mastermind, my wife and I were okay, but I knew I could do better. We were already parents to a beautiful girl and trying for our second, but we had some challenges. It was hard. I had never experienced what it was like to walk through a miscarriage let alone 3 back to back. Or had ever knee any man, who had and was willing to talk about it. There was so much pain, anger, saddness, and grief. It was one of the most difficult seasons of my life, especially for my wife because I had know idea what she needed from me…my natural instinct was how do things for her to try fix her brokenness, but it was opposite of what she needed, she just needed me to be with her through her brokenness. I didn’t understand empathy, I didn’t understand how to meet my wife where she was… so I decided to take the step, pushed my pride aside and I asked for help. I joined the dad edge community and it became the best thing that has ever happened to me as man, and my family. When I joined my first call team, I was so nervous, but it felt right, and the men in the group made it so easy. Almost as if I had always known them. The resources and knowledge I have learned and still apply today, propelled my relationship forward. It wasn’t easy, but nothing great ever comes easy. You have to put in the work to get the results. If you are reading this and are on the fence. Take the step, put your pride aside, join the dad edge and get after it!
