If only most of the news organizations and professional journalists covering politics and politicians today had & utilized half of the focus, patience and redirection skills that Jon Stewart did in holding Senator Fetterman’s feet to the fire! Frustrating far too often most interviewers allow politicians to dodge, distract or dance around questions as Fetterman sought to do multiple times throughout. However, this was an interview that showcased a masterclass act in what a good journalistic interview should be!
John holding Fetterman’s feet to the fire, while he dodged and played stupid games, was so frustrating but also important to hear. That guy has no business being in office anymore. Long time listener but this episode should be a gold star on proper interviewing of our increasingly corrupt politicians.
What a great explainer! Thank you Jon, and thank you Cory, for connecting the dots in an understandable way while presenting new things to consider. Always a good listen.
Love especially the Heather Cox Richardson & Sen. Bernie Sanders episodes. As a teacher and human I value literacy and poetry and dignified healthcare for all. Small note: the cognitively dissonant leap I just took going from Bernie and Jon talking billionaires and essential workers and worrying about a family’s “first $1,000” rather than a billionaire’s fiftieth billion, to an ad break for CARTIER, woof . 💎😳
Other pods try. This one delivers. John Stewart and invited experts take on the nature of the beast. They dig deep, name the problems and culprits, and reflect on possibilities.
Used to be a huge fan. Checked out the show and his ability to mishear people is astounding. Jon then attempts to repeat their point but in straw-man terms. “So what you’re saying is…” followed by a terrible misinterpretation of their point designed to make the point giver sound like an idiot. Not good faith conversation. Listening for understanding is the basis of a good conversation or interview. Too bad. We could use his voice in these times but unfortunately his voice isn’t what it once was. Or maybe I misremember?
