Mile High FI has somehow become my favorite FI—or FI-adjacent—podcast. I really appreciate Doug’s grounded approach to financial independence and retirement. There’s no sense that you need to reinvent yourself, discover some grand purpose, or build a legacy once you have time freedom. Sometimes the good life really is about simple pleasures, having control over your time, and spending your days however you want. The conversations feel genuine, relatable, and never like a lecture. Highly recommend.

Mile High FI is the rare FIRE show that actually feels like sitting in on a real conversation instead of a lecture. Doug Cunnington is an always-improving host: tighter questions, better pacing, more confidence, and a knack for getting guests to say the messy, useful stuff other podcasts sand off. Hundreds of episodes in, you can hear him getting sharper every week. The guest bench is why I never skip an episode. Rox Duckels (FinanceRox) brings brains and humor. Dusti Young talks un-retiring, rental disasters, and solo FI without the highlight reel. Rusty is the thoughtful regular who will go from DIY vs. outsourcing to prairie dogs and ethics without it feeling random. Pete Adeney (Mr. Money Mustache) showing up for live CampFI Q&As and mailbag episodes is a gift. Carl Jensen still pops in and the chemistry is still there. This is real talk about life after the corporate job: drawdowns, identity after work, lifestyle creep that actually funds a life you want, Coast FI to full FI, RV living, cognitive biases, and the fear of hitting “sell.” Raw, candid, and consistently worth an hour. If you care about financial independence and not just the spreadsheet, this is the one. Five stars. Keep going, Doug.

This podcast is a fun listen. Often sounds like friends hanging out talking about FI. A nice way to reinforce topics or learn something new.

Writing this review because I’m shocked the average rating of this pod isn’t higher. Not sure why, as I love Doug’s style, topics, and guests. Content probably does skew more for people who are close to or at FI, but there are always nuggets for anyone interested in FIRE.

I listened to one episode and these guys were literally giving false information. They said you can withdraw from an HSA for anything after “a certain age”, (incorrect), they didn’t differentiate how an IRA contribution vs conversion are treated (contributions are always available for withdrawal, conversions are not), they said you can start withdrawing from tax protected (they say “tax delayed”) accounts in the year you turn 59 (you must be 59.5 to avoid the penalty) and I could go on. These guys are dangerous.
