The Unborn

by iHeartPodcasts

Jared and Kristy Akron are the couple everyone admires; living the small-town, Pennsylvania dream: a recent wedding,  a new home, and twins on the way. But when Jared begins noticing cracks in their seemingly perfect life, his suspicions lead him down a dark and twisting path he never anticipated. Kristy, who has always dreamed of being a mother, shows signs of strange, erratic behavior—secretive doctor visits, odd late-night activities, and a fierce insistence on keeping Jared at a distance. As he digs deeper, Jared uncovers secrets that reveal a side of Kristy he’s never known. Beneath her sweet, small-town charm lies a monster willing to go to unimaginable lengths to protect the life she’s crafted. The love that brought them together now binds them in a twisted game of deception and betrayal, where truth is elusive, and reality unravels one chilling clue at a time.

Great show, enjoyed the story telling and the interviews. The background music was distracting though. There were too many loud sound effects as well. Took away from the experience a little bit. But overall kept me hooked!

This is an incredible story that kept me very invested. However, throughout the entire show there is continuous dramatic background music that is definitely too loud at some points. It becomes distracting to me and takes away from the interviews.

The story is interesting and I feel so bad for Jared but the podcast itself is overproduced. The background noises are so excessive. There are so many ups and downs to the story then adding constant background sounds and effects makes it an overwhelming experience. I expect the background music and sounds in the intro or first few mins of a podcast but I’m several episodes in and the sounds have been non-stop throughout. I hope the creators of this podcast try again with another season/story. Other than the background effects, I think they did pretty good for their first podcast.

Enjoying the story but we need to remember this is a real person with real mental health concerns. I feel the way they are talking about Kristy villainizes her without being very compassionate about the mental health plight. It seems outdated. We need to address concerns about the lack of mental health resources and affordable treatments in America! The struggles are all too real and growing all the time.

The story was crazy but everything else about this podcast was awful. Other posts have said it - constant loud dramatic and annoying music that was very distracting to the point of making the story hard to listen to, lots of repetition, slow pace at times, commercial breaks that cut the speaker off mid-sentence. Painful. I almost quit after the first episode because it was hard to follow, jumping from this person to that person, loud music, etc. I’ve done 5 episodes and I’m done. Can’t listen anymore. I feel like I wasted my time.

I love true crime podcasts and really wanted to like this. It looks like an interesting story. But I couldn’t get through the first episode. There is terrible music constantly playing in the background, even when they’re interviewing people. Obnoxious, unnecessary sound effects (like a bottle opener when they mention Jared’s a drinker, tractor sounds when they say he’s a farmer, etc.) left and right. It was so distracting I couldn’t concentrate on the content, which - who knows - may or may not have been worth listening to. I quit about three quarters of the way into the first episode. I don’t recommend bothering with this unless you’re really good at tuning that stuff out.
