What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

I’ve been listening to this show for 3 years and thoroughly enjoyed it until the last 6-12 months. I listen for the investigation and to learn more about the inner workings of Keyes. Very little new information or theories have been divulged, instead the podcast has turned its attention to “fans”. It’s extremely cringe to utilize this podcast to promote exclusive trips, etc. I don’t listen to learn more about Josh or any of the “behind the scenes”. Make a separate podcast if that’s the direction you want to go and save this one before you run it in to the ground…

I’ve listened to this show from the very beginning and it’s a great, very thorough podcast. I’m also blown away at how well the details are presented. I would like to say even after all these years, I never get over the frustration when I hear the FBI interviews. i hate how much control and power they gave Keyes! the laughing & chit chat makes me incredibly uncomfortable.

I’ve been an avid consumer of podcasts for about 6 years, courtesy of the pandemic. Since stumbling upon TCB, via looking up the serial killer I had never heard and learned of from another podcast, I ended up here. Since then, I have listened to every episode, some of them multiple times. I have joined the Patreon. And I leave my membership current no matter the time of year. Josh and company deserve every penny. This is the most thorough, most researched, most engaging, most reliable podcast I have taken part in. Every missing persons cold case that comes up in the south east that I hear of makes me immediately question, “Can this case be related to Israel and should I message the TCB crew?”. I’m 48. I spent my teens in the French Quarter. I lived through Katrina on the MS Gulf Coast. I lived one October - May in the Berkshires, in 1997-1998. I was an avid car traveler along coastal states from CA-MA for a few years. So many IK moments force me to think about how fortunate I was not to be in the right place at the right time. You won’t regret dedicating your time to listening to this entire podcast. You won’t regret sending a couple of dollars their way, because they deserve support for the copious amount of research they put into IK that really shines through each episode. So go take a listen. This is my gold standard when it comes to podcasts. Most others (in true crime at least) cannot measure up. By long and far, this is the best case deep dive I have ever listened to. To Josh & Crew, keep up the amazing work. I just finished 714 and am hoping the next season hits by 10/7, which is my birthday. 🩵. Thanks for all the entertainment and brain worms!

Great podcast! Wasn’t sure where to write this, I live in Kootenai County and it is pronounced Koot-knee, not koot-nye. Great podcast anyway! If you come across Pend Orielle that is pronounced Ponderay. Just trying to be helpful, so it’s easier for listeners to understand. I love this podcast , the format, info, content, language, all of it. 5 stars!

HVEFAITH · Dec 2025

I love this podcast which is why it pains me to see it heading in a troubling direction. I found myself nodding along to another listener’s recent review. That listener echoed my exact same concerns about this podcast and its steady decline. The focus seems to be heavily focused on promotion of trips of all varieties. Over the past year, I unfortunately have been listening to the podcast less and less. The most recent episode entitled, “ Retrospective:Darkness” is a perfect example why I no longer enjoy listening as much as I used to. To be honest, I couldn’t even make it past the first 15 minutes of that episode. After Josh promoted a few fan trips, he then chose to dive into a review of his mental health. I found it all so cringey…it was so off-putting to listen to. The podcast is about Keyes…not a forum for Josh to use as a trauma dump. That’s why many of us seek therapy…so we don’t end up cornering an innocent coworker into a corner as we go on and on about all of our personal struggles. I really do hope that Josh finds a new topic if he’s no longer able to sustain a quality podcast just talking about Keyes. I’m sure listeners would support a change in topic…it’s been 8 seasons focused on the same serial killer. My intention is not to shame Josh. I support mental health and therapy. I just don’t think this podcast is the right forum to promote fan trips and air out mental health struggles.

NerdforTC · Jul 2026

I’ve been a committed listener and Patreon supporter. This latest season is a mess. The host is going through it so the listeners are going to go through it too. I care about this podcast, the victims and the host. People listen to true crime for a variety of reasons. I care deeply because my own family suffered from a terrible set of murders without fair justice. I’ve been a victim of a brutal crime as well. I believe in this investigation because Josh does too as well as many listeners and contributors to the podcast. Now some criticism which is not taken well by any the host. The trova trips thing is off except for those few people that are really into it. Stop whining about the mouth sounds thing. No one on patron cares because they’re committed to your work. The endless delays, schedule changes and excuses are taking advantage of the sympathies of the audience. Everyone is going through something, not just you. Chances are many listeners of True Crime have their own experiences and feelings around it. Lots of people have to manage their mental health and meet their obligations. If you can’t manage your mental health and meet your obligations, be honest and step away for a while. It can’t be both only you and your priorities and continuing to profit off your listeners while simultaneously missing commitments and turning out subpar content. It’s not fair to you, your employees, the listeners. Patreon subscribers or your advertisers. Get help, take the time you need but both/and doesn’t work with continuing to profit off your audience as though it’s status quo when it’s not. The quality has slipped, the schedule is erratic and chaotic and Patreon is being utilized as your personal trauma dump. It’s unfair to exploit people’s honest caring and compassion to profit. What happened to the ethics? How did True Crim BS become actual true crime bs.
