I’m not directly connected to NPEs/donor conception/etc (as far as I know), but have a long time interest in family and identity formation, and the donor perspective is fairly rare, so I’m glad to see a representation here. I’m intrigued by the format with friend (with parallel experiences) and spouse anchoring the story, and with it starting before any meetings have happened and even before sister/parents knew. I’m glad the excitement of all involved can challenge the fear of rejection that can be part of some people’s experiences when considering contacting a donor. Also appreciate the default normalizing of queer and non-nuclear notions of family.
I do hope to see a shift in Adam’s understanding of his moral responsibility, however, as the offspring resulting from his decisions never made an agreement with him (or anyone or any company). Parents (bio, raised, etc) can and do fail their children all the time (and sometimes in understandable or unavoidable ways), but that doesn’t negate the unidirectional duty of care they have. I appreciate seeing Adam’s openness to his kids and their other bio/raised parents, and I hope he stays present with the complexities of unregulated/commodified donor conception in ways that center the person who exists with the fundamental human right of connection to their biological parents, and who was never part of any agreement attempting to erase or sever this tie.
Also hope audio quality continues to improve!
