Love this podcast! Hilarious! Everything about it! Also… I used the term akimbo in conversation with a random fellow mom at the park the other day. I thought it was a new slang term for “a lot of” that the cool people are using. I later googled it and it’s a theatre term?! Not only is this podcast hilarious, it’s educational!!

I love me some reality tv hate watching and I love a podcast that recaps it through the lens of culture and politics (à la ‘Love to See It’) but this ain’t it. The idea of making a woman suffering from postpartum psychosis on trial for murdering her children a running segment next a sister wives update… woof. And not even a trigger warning?! People use the words trauma and trigger far too liberally now but loss of a child (whether to violence or illness), having postpartum or being the subject to serious medical malpractice or neglect are all points of trauma and talking about it like it’s a piece of pop culture gossip is objectively gross especially without a trigger warning up top or in the show notes. Talk about it -sure- but do so with care and try to contextualize it rather than just acting like it’s another reality show.

I’ve been a loyal listener of We Love to Hate Everything for years, and I’ve always loved the hosts and the content, which is why this is so frustrating to say: the show has become really difficult to listen to. The ongoing audio issues are exhausting, but it’s not just the audio. The hosts frequently talk over each other, there’s noticeable tension in the dynamic, and recent episodes often feel unfocused. Jodie’s long tangents can completely derail the conversation, and Amanda often seems uncomfortable rather than engaged. The SW “deep dives” have also been hard to enjoy. They seem intended as comedy, but they’re often presented in a way that feels indistinguishable from fact. Without clearer framing, I worry that some listeners are taking speculation or bits as gospel. I say this as someone who genuinely loved the podcast: StreamYard is not the problem. The show needs better audio standards, clearer structure, and a more honest look at what is actually making the listening experience so strained. Amanda, I also want to say this directly because I usually appreciate your takes, but your Spencer Pratt comment really bothered me. “As a human being, terrible mayor probably. As a comedy bit? Gold” might feel funny from Calgary, but from inside the U.S., it lands very differently. We already did the “reality-TV villain running for office is hilarious” thing. That became Trump. That became MAGA. That became a permission structure for cruelty, unseriousness, grifting, and the degradation of public life.
