This podcast is in the top tier of crime podcasts, the production quality is unmatched. The episodes do a great job of getting content from both relatives and investigators. In addition to the interviews, they even have voice re-enactments throughout. No chatty gossiping hosts giving inane and inappropriate commentary (that the true crime genre is unfortunately RAMPANT with), just raw and bone chilling insight and context.

I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts and what makes me LOVE this one is they have VERY talented actors playing out each story. It’s not cheesy and actually makes this way more captivating. It’s like an audio book, but with way more excitement and talent. I always anxiously await the next episode!

These are episodes from four different TV series that air on ID, so there’s a narrator and actors. This is not a typical podcast with a host/opinions, etc. I think it’s a nice break from the typical podcast format. I know the stories can be hard to listen to at times but these are real life accounts from the people involved: the victims (when possible), law enforcement, friends and family and these are heinous crimes. Some of the stories are recounted by the victim, where they detail how the fought back and survived.

You feel the fear, anger & healing through the stories. I highly recommend it but be prepared to rage against the evil parts of humanity.

They should stick to just telling the stories.
The re-enactments are confusing. You’ll be listening and engaged in the story, and all of a sudden some random lines come at you from an amateur voice actor in first person. This happens every 30-90 seconds.
On top of that, the “background” music they choose to play is so loud you can’t hear narration or the words of the survivors. Then sometimes they just play eerie music loudly at the least appropriate moments.
I listened to the first episode and couldn’t handle it. Skipped to the most recent ones and there is little improvement — still all the same issues.
It’s totally disorienting. Really bad. Unfortunate because it’s a great topic.

The female actor who portrays everyone on this podcast breathes SO heavy in every reenactment in every episode. It’s disarming, triggering and overdone. Sometimes I’ve gone and listened to other podcasts cover the same case and the emotions do not match. One survivor, Brandi Hicks, said she remained extremely calm so as not to heighten her situation and help herself survive and the actor portrayed her as hysterical. Do better with these important inaccuracies for the victims?
