Sonic the Hedgehog Presents: The Chaotix Casefiles

*Spoiler warning* So this podcast is genuinely amazing. So it’s got a really good story, really good writing, really good voice acting, and just generally a great podcast. I’ve been listening to it since it came out. There is a few details I think should be pointed out, some good some bad. Good: The plot line is not only easy to follow but is really twisted and complicated but in a good way. The plot twists are surprising and it also got me screaming when the villain was revealed, like actually screaming. And also like the feeling of happiness and joy at the end had me smiling ear to ear. Bad: Really? You had to add Tangle, Whisper, and Sage? I mean Tangle and Whisper in my opinion are great characters..as long as they remain IN the comics. And Sage? Just because she’s an AI doesn’t mean she’s EVERYWHERE. That’s my only notes. It’s overall really good. Happy 35th Sonic!!! Great Way to celebrate the anniversary. And remember always be nice to people and yourself! DEWDROP OUUUT!!!!

I was a fan of the first 2 games but fell off after that. I’ve had fun listening and looking up the new names to me while hearing an audio presentation very reminiscent of the red panda adventures. Highly recommend if you are looking for a light and friendly listen.

For Sonic the Hedgehog's first ever official podcast, The Chaotix Casefiles delivered far more than it needed to. The story was well-written and quite engaging, and the twist at the end involving the main antagonist's identity reveal was completely unexpected. I genuinely did not see it coming, but it definitely was a pleasant surprise. Not only that, the story was a great blend of mystery, comedy and heart, further carried by the podcast's top-notch voice direction. The Chaotix are a hilarious and extremely entertaining trio, and their dynamics and interactions with one another never cease to amuse or get a laugh out of me. This story does a great job of fleshing out their characters, perhaps more so than any other piece of Sonic media outside of Sonic X. The other Sonic characters are also written pretty well. Dan Jolley seems to have a good grasp on these characters; I would love to see him write more for this franchise. I also thought the background music was very good; it not only harkens back to classic detective movies and TV shows, but also, like the Super Mario movies from Illumination, seamlessly incorporates tracks and songs from various games throughout the Sonic franchise, which I thought was an awesome touch. The opening theme song by Rebecca Sugar is also quite catchy, if I do say so myself. If I had to highlight any negatives, I have two. Firstly, while most of the tongue-in-cheek references to past Sonic games weren't so "in-your-face" about it, there are a few—namely Vector outright calling out the final boss of 1995's Knuckles Chaotix in Ep. 1 and Espio namedropping the "Find the Computer Room" meme from 2005's Shadow the Hedgehog—felt too forced and nearly pulled me out of the story. Secondly, the shoehorning of Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf from the IDW Sonic comic series was completely unnecessary. While I do like their voices and think they suit their respective characters well, they ultimately add nothing of significance to the story and feel like they're there purely for no other reason than to convince the audience to read the IDW Sonic comics (which, if you ask me, are home to some of the worst-written stories in the franchise). You could very easily replace Tangle and Whisper with, say, Amy and Knuckles, and literally nothing would change about the story. All in all, despite the few gripes I have with it, The Chaotix Casefiles is a very entertaining story and one of the most fun podcasts I've listened to. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog. This definitely won’t be the last time I'll be listening to this podcast. Pros: - Great story! - Excellent characterization - Top-notch voice work and direction - Awesome soundtrack and main theme Cons: - A few forced game references - Unnecessary IDW Sonic cross promotion Final Rating: 8 / 10

I didn’t know that I needed a SONIC narrative podcast. The voice acting is incredible, and the music as usual top notch. Love, love, love the atmosphere captured by the mics.
