Adam Blackwell and Amy Stirling met as graduate students in anthropology, both obsessed with studying the same dead language and long-lost culture. Their relationship was always... complicated. They were bitter rivals, ideological opposites, and even went out on a date once - though they’d really prefer if everyone forgot about that last thing, thank you very much.
Then, they became the first two people in thousands of years capable of doing magic.
Over the next five years, they became global superstars, both revered and feared. Their powers led to a tragedy unlike any the world had seen before. Now, the world's first two magicians of the modern age must figure out the truth of their power, its consequences, and their relationship with one another before they do more damage to the world.

I find myself thinking so much more about this show than I expected. It’s a good listen and I appreciate that the main characters are both kind of unlikeable; that makes the stakes more important and realistic, somehow.

I’m enjoying the show! But at times the background music is too over bearing, I’d rather the writing tell me how to feel than the loud background music to tell me it’s an uplifting moment. The folly with other sound effects is also at times too prominent. Otherwise thoroughly loving the story

I wish I could remember who suggested this podcast to me so I could thank them properly for introducing me to such a captivating audio experience. The Harbingers has quickly landed in my top podcasts and will forever be a comfort show to come back to. The characters are complicated and so very human as they try to navigate the “right” way to use their new magic powers in a world where they cannot avoid the prying eyes of society. The music, sound design, storytelling, writing, and acting are amazing. Knowing the content of the show, I am, unfortunately, not surprised there are negative reviews and a multitude of sour comments about the politics involved. Personally, I think the social commentary is expertly woven into the story and is important for understanding the motivations of multiple characters. There is a lot of moral greyness and I think that lends to the situations feeling more real. I can’t wait to hear what the next season has in store!

This show is my new favorite and I am trying to savor every episode. Amelia is such a force and a one of my favorite characters in recent history. The production is so well-done and the format makes this show feel fresh and different from others I’ve listened to.

Honestly, it’s not the worst series, but I listen to it as white noise, and so far there are zero likable characters in the entire series, it’s honestly sad, it’s hard to feel for the story and get into it, when everybody is horrible. The timeline and order of events is also confusing, and it’s difficult to follow the plot when everything is jumping around to the past, the present, etc., and on top of all of that there seems to be a lot of buildup with zero payoff in almost every episode.
