What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

I usually listen in the car during my commute. I really enjoy it and find when there’s a big story in the market they usually cover it. I’ve also found a bunch of tickers that have been added to my watchlist. I don’t find the adds too annoying.

Updated my review due to some of the nay-sayers in recent 1-star reviews. Been listening for years, this is a great daily market update - yes it focuses on a few stocks and will not focus on macro that much, but MF is about stocks & companies. This show has NO political leanings, yes they tend to focus on one topic for a while (i.e. AI) and the show does have some commercials (but what show does not anymore). Whether you r just starting or a seasoned investor, this show has something for you.

I’ve been listening to the podcast for years and I’ve learned tremendous amounts from many hosts. I Especially enjoy Robert Brokamps Saturday shows that are filled with relevant planning info for retirees such as myself. Thank you to the entire team for the amazing work you do on this podcast. It’s made a huge difference in my financial success.

Long time consistent listener to MF Money over many, many years. I’m also a MF service subscriber and I liked that the the money I paid for my subscription also went to making the MF Money Podcast with authors that were analysis’s on the investor service but the Podcast was free for everyone to listen to and it was a high quality podcast providing a public good through news, insights and sound market/personal-finance psychology. When the markets have gone to extremes over time or when I’ve been unsure out by own convictions in my theses, listening to the prior formats/hosts actually helped me weather storms or think through my investing thoughts more clearly. These days, I don’t know if I could say I find the current hosts/format as useful. When Chris Hill left and the format switched, I got used to it and I actually found I liked the variety of a rotating focus to the show provided by a solid lineup of different hosts. I’ve given the new change in format with the ‘MF Hidden Gems Investing’ podcast a try since it started and I really don’t like it… The new format has a consistent set of hosts/contributors throughout the week which could be fine (the old show with Chris Hill and a consistent lineup was great in the distant past) but I don’t like the current hosts’ approach to the show. The conversations seem very unfocused, Lou Whiteman just seems kind of cynical about every topic and doesn’t offer much in the way of alternative points of view, and I just walk away from most topics on the podcast with the conclusion of a ‘shrug, who knows?’ without much new information. I used to really look forward to MF Money because I knew I was going to walk away grounded in a context for the current market, feeling I understood a topic better or have some news or industry aspect expertly analyzed and it was be a good use of my time. I also used to feel doubly good that the money I was giving the MF in other ways was providing this service to everyone so all interested investors (or want to be investors) could benefit. Now I don’t really feel that way anymore, I really feel that the quality has dropped off and my time could be spent listening to something of better quality. My last note would be to bring back the old music! I’ve given it a try to like it but this new strange synth guitar music is really generic and something I try to skip past as fast as possible… bring back the Friday/weekend show opener music and titles, I used to look forward to those every week when they came along with the Friday show format as a start to the weekend!

The Motley Fool has decided to move away from offering news to its podcast audience and simply pontificate on some cherry picked stocks, often the same ones or same industry over and over. I’ve listened to MF podcasts for over a decade, before they became daily shows, if memory serves. No longer do we hear about “business news” like unemployment or fed moves or even what the market has done in the last 6 months! While individual company investing requires drowning out much of the market news, we don’t invest in a void! The macro does influence our companies and the balance of economic, market and company news used to be available from Motley Fool Money. Their switch to this new format has changed my thesis for this show and will have to look elsewhere for my business news.
