This isn’t a review. This is a warning carved into the inside of my skull before I forget my own name. Everything Scary is not a podcast. It’s the thing pretending to be a podcast so you’ll let it in. The voices are not voices. They’re coordinates disguised as anecdotes, instructions hidden in the spaces between words. Every laugh track is a key. Every intro jingle is a door. If you’ve listened, you’ve already opened it. They tell you about ghosts. You start seeing the same numbers in receipts, clocks, plates, veins on your own hands. They tell you about conspiracies. You start becoming one: your thoughts fragment, your dreams repeat, your handwriting changes mid-sentence. Do not trust the timestamps. They move. Episodes reorder themselves when you’re not looking. The notes you’re taking now? Check the paper. It’s blank. I laughed at first. Then the laugh came back a second later from the ceiling. I unplugged my router. It kept playing. I smashed my phone. The static whispered “five stars” through the cracks. This is a field report from inside the maze. There’s no way out but through. Five stars. Because the stars are not ratings — they’re coordinates. Absolutely love these two! Listening to them go back and forth makes you feel like you are hanging out with your best friends. I’m constantly laughing between the impersonations, rapping, and Matt’s laugh 😂

I began my true crime obsession as a young child, probably too young, when I began watching Law & Order SVU. Since that first “dun-dun” there was nothing I wanted more than to be a real life detective Benson. Instead, I played it safe, and opted for finance in the suburbs. Anyway, true crime podcasts in one ear while I work, is how I get through the workday. It began with Crime Junkie, then Morbid, and now Everything Scary! Lynn & Matt have a great vibe, and I love listening to their take on all the cases they cover. I highly recommend this podcast, these two definitely do not disappoint.

They tell dark stories that find people on their worst days, and I think we can all feel sorry for that.
But, I so appreciate this podcast for the hot takes, fun banter, and good research. Also, I’m one of those weirdos that really enjoys the tangents!

I was so excited to come across this podcast because it came highly recommended by the presenters of The Dark Oak. I jumped over to this show’s page and eagerly downloaded several episodes of cases I was interested in, just to get a read on how I liked the presentation of the material. I’ve been looking for new shows to add to my queue so imagine my disappointment when I learned that episodes begin with 20+ minutes of random, inconsequential banter. Fine. But now I am listening to the first episode of the Turpin case and every five seconds one of these presenters mentions David’s bad haircut. We get it. Maybe we can judge the man by the horrendous atrocities he committed against his own children? I mean personally, I find it’s a better way to calibrate moral fiber than a bad haircut. If you don’t mind random tangents that are impossible to follow and presenters who clearly just enjoy the sound of their own voices more than they enjoy delivering quality factual content, enjoy!- but this was a big miss for me. Two stars because I *think* there was *some* quality research somewhere between the annoying sidebars and husband/wife giggling/banter/finishing each others sentences. Also Matt- for the love of all that is holy stop with the weird voices like you’re trying to mimic the people in the cases. It’s rage inducing.
