What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

This show never fails to impress, to entertain, and to get me to think critically about horror! Chelsea’s research leading into each episode is impeccable, and James is as fun to listen to as always.

I’ve been listening to this a while and I’ve made my way through about half of their podcasts at the time of writing this review Some of their episodes are funny and silly(March madness) and some are so much deeper- where they explore seems and have wonderful and stimulating conversations that are truly just a pleasure to listen to (creepy child, final girl, weapons and smile) Whether you seen all the movies that they talk about or you’re new to horror like me, I cannot recommend this enough. 5 stars- 10/10 would recommend!

I don't like a lot of horror podcasts as a queer POC because they can pivot into the weird dude-bro cringe energy, real fast. This pod has always been a welcome change because of how thoughtful and intentional the research and conversations are. Chelsea handles it all with such consideration and intention. Her research, her takes, the topics/themes she notes and discusses... Always handled with care and respect for the people, lifestyles & experiences she may not be familiar with. We love a queen who can serve you dissertation, history, comedy and a wealth of horror knowledge all on one plate, okay!? 👑👑 She is a masterclass in hosting and reviewing. No notes sis. ✨💁🏾‍♂️ James on the other hand... He's great. He's funny. He's our handsome wholesome horror himbo Dad, and this show wouldn't be what it is without him either! But... his occasional "NoT aLl MeN" and "doN't FoRgEt AbOuT mEn's PeRsPeCtIvE" energy is making this pod hard to listen to. I ignore it a lot when he does it - and let's be real, he does it a lot, lol - but James loves to hijack a conversation and derail it into men's feelings. It can come across super tone/deaf. I stopped listening for awhile after the episode where the gang was covering The Substance. James's "not all men" was showing and it was just... too much. He seemed so incapable of just listening. He almost compulsively needed to juxtapose the experiences of men and women when the conversation and the movie itself WAS CLEARLY NOT ABOUT MEN. It was just unnecessary and odd. James, pleeeease just listen to women tell you about their experiences without derailing their point to include your POV? Not a good look. @chip the i.t. guy - how does James’s dong taste? lol. Keep glazing that dong, cracker. lol.

I only discovered DM a couple weeks ago when I was trying to find something spooky-themed to listen to during Halloween season. I absolutely love Chelsea and James’s dynamic. I often disagree with their opinions but I love their conversations and their style and the knowledge they bring to discussions of film history and technique. I only wish they put out episodes faster because I want more content from them.
