What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

I’m going to have to say this is the most enjoyable podcast I have ever found. Yasi is absolutely hilarious but more importantly she takes her research seriously. I love how the episodes sprawl out as long as they need to for the full story of the band to be told. And the variety of what she likes - The Jesus and Mary Chain? The Germs?? 12 hours on Madonna??? 5 billion stars.

I’ve enjoyed having Yasi tell me the history of artists, bands, and scenes for a few years now. She’s given me an education on musicians and music that I’ve loved and listened to for decades. But nothing, NOTHING prepared me for the 4-part, est. 16 hour Madonna episodes. This podcast was already top level. With this series (I’m 3 hours into ep 3 and just had to pause and write this) Yasi and Bandsplain have achieved god-tier. I’m throwing flowers and dollar bills at my iphone. Thank you.

Yasi is incredibly funny, knowledgeable, entertaining, and overall the perfect human to be hosting this podcast. Listened to the smiths episodes and learned so much!

Madster_pom9 · Mar 2026

A nice cyber oasis for alt/indie/punk adjacent music geeks. It feels like getting to sit at the dinner table at a family function while you're cool older cousin shares her cool music takes.

HerbinGardener · Feb 2026

I loved this show at first, focusing on bands that typically get far less attention and deserve their flowers. The Afghan Whigs episode is epic and I still revisit it. Same for several other early ones, like Jawbreaker. So yes, Gen X music nerd alert. And as an avowed music nerd, I appreciate that Yasi is a great researcher, but she’s become just another Ringer host now, saddled with their staff as guests most of the time and making space for their endless fascination with rankings and analogies to sports. Her topics have also become more pedestrian, likely their idea, too. It is surely great for her career and bank account, but their talent pool is mostly pretty annoying and it drags the show down. Chris Ryan is an exception to that rule. Same for Rob Harvilla. Amanda Dobbins is profoundly irritating on this and on The Big Picture. Yasi used to have takes. Now she seems fenced in. Her catchphrases get old fast, but I like her sincerity and depth of knowledge. Most of the less appealing aspects of the show were likely not her ideas. She seems like a lovely person with a lot to say, so it’s depressing to see it go like this.

I am very interested in the content of the Madonna episode but the number of times she says babe seems like she is playing a practical joke on the reader. It’s so often it’s distracting. She seems like a great researcher, but she would really benefit from working on her communication if audio is going to be her medium. I don’t think this is a secist comment as I mostly listen to podcasts by women and they are either not saying it or getting it edited out.
