What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

I wish there were a way to fully explain the feeling I get when listening to the birth of my favorite songs—and even those I’m discovering for the first time. At the beginning of each episode, every invited artist shares a brief summary of their journey, setting the stage for the embryogenesis of the selected song.

The entire backlog of this podcast got me through studying (and passing each section first-time) the ARE (Architect Registration Exam) a couple of years ago. Just hearing the intro music takes me instantly back to that day & age.

KMonk821 · Mar 2026

Just listened to how A-ha came up with Take On Me and it made my day hearing how all the pieces came together to make this song THIS SONG! As someone who was a teenager in the 80’s, it had that “pure joy” effect on me. Thank you!

Littlebrgirl · Oct 2025

This is one of the most awesome podcasts for anyone who appreciates music. The opportunity to listen to the artist talk without pressure about their craft and creative process is so incredibly refreshing and allows me to dig deeper into artist of all genres and explore new ones. I work in music and radio so my job involves listening to music all day. The best part of this podcast is waiting through the very end and if you were paying attention hearing all the nuance of the conversation in the final play of the song. Song Exploder makes me listen to music differently with a more fine tuned ear. It doesn't hurt to ask, but getting Brandi Carlile and her writing partners/band to come on and do an episode on her new songs would be incredible. She is extremely talented, passionate about her lyrics and music and it would be a great conversation. Thank you for this podcast!
