As a therapist and mother of five who works with adolescents, I cannot recommend the "This is so Awkward" podcast highly enough. This exceptional resource has become an invaluable tool both in my personal parenting journey and in my professional practice. What makes this podcast stand out is its perfect blend of evidence-based information and practical, real-world application. The hosts navigate complex adolescent development topics with expertise, nuance, and refreshing honesty. Each episode delves into the awkward yet crucial conversations parents need to have with their teens, providing scripts, strategies, and reassurance along the way. I've found myself repeatedly referencing episodes during parent consultations, and the podcast now holds a permanent spot on the resource list I share with families. Parents consistently report back that the podcast helps them feel less alone in their parenting struggles while equipping them with concrete tools to better connect with their teens. For those of us in the trenches of raising adolescents (and helping others do the same), this podcast is a beacon of wisdom in what can often feel like uncharted territory. Five stars doesn't seem adequate for a resource that has positively impacted so many families in my practice and my own home. If you work with adolescents or are raising them, "This is so Awkward" deserves a permanent spot in your podcast library.
Vanessa and Cara are the best guides to modern puberty. I found out about the podcast because I read the book, and they are both indispensable resources. If you have kids, you'll learn all about how to talk to them and what to talk about. If you don't, you can still process some of your own latent puberty baggage here!
Amazing advice, and excellent commentary. Very inclusive and supportive of LGBTQ+ identities, as well as they are feminists who very much know how much of an epidemic toxic masculinity is in our culture. Highly recommend for any parent.
Mom of two (very different!) kids. Since my kids hit middle school and now high school it’s been emotionally challenging for me to navigate how to parent them and grow our relationship. I wasn’t prepared for how different it would be from their grade school years. I’ve turned to many podcasts and resources looking for insight and help. Personally podcasts work best with my life as I’m able to listen during my nighttime hikes with the family dog. This podcast has been the best one I’ve found that covers an array of topics, has valuable content with guest speakers and seems to be open and affirming. Thank you for showing up and doing this important work that us parents can greatly benefit from!
I really wanted to love this podcast, but there are a lot of views that do not mesh with Christian values. So, if that is what you’re looking for, this isn’t the place. There is definitely some good content here, but a lot of things make me cringe.
