Welcome to The Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Podcast - a show devoted to revisiting and honoring the world's greatest portrayal of the world's greatest detective.
From 1984 to 1994, Granada Television produced what is arguably the best (and most complete) depiction of the legendary detective's Adventures, Memoirs, Case-Books and many Returns. Spanning 36 episodes and 5 movies, producer Michael Cox created a Sherlockian experience like no other. This podcast will examine that timeless series with a specific eye on Jeremy Brett in the role he was destined to immortalize.

Growing up, my introduction to Sherlock Holmes was via old movies featuring Basil Rathbone, it wasn’t until I came across Thames Tv production that I first saw the Real Sherlock. Armed with an egotistical brilliance and flamboyant posture I was introduced also to a new side of the great detective, the fallibility of a bored mind. Brett encapsulated the very vision of Doyle’s work that there has never been nor I doubt ever will be a more precise rendition of the man whom has become a household name, Brett threw himself whole heartedly into this role to such a formidable degree that all others fail in comparison. For me Jeremy Brett was Sherlock, and invites the audience to see the greatness and the weaknesses of the man.
This podcast is a celebration of his portrayal, and continues to investigate the small nuances that Brett captured so elegantly to serve as the Wikipedia of both the character and actor, a marvelous tribute to both and one in which we can continue to enjoy long after his death and let us fall in love with Holmes all over again. Such is the magnificence of Brett’s portrayal that this marriage twix actor and author as-to question whether Doyle wrote it for the intent of Brett’s brilliance or vice versa such is the dynamics between both, a marriage destined to survive the annuls of literature that upstaged the very work itself, Brett breathed life into the character to such a force that either one can simply not stand without the other.
To those that are behind this podcast, my thanks to you and as Holmes himself would say ‘pray continue’.

I’ve gotten through this whole podcast series on YouTube and now I’ll be going back through on Apple Podcasts as I’m going through the canon/Granada series again for a personal academic project, it is an excellent resource for analysis, even if just from the production perspective sometimes. The passion they have for the series and the character of Sherlock is amazing, and I look forward to the next episode whenever it may happen.

WHEN DO WE GET MORE NEW EPISODES? I am missing the adventure. I have been relishing the Conan Doyle magnum opus, Sherlock Holmes, for almost seven decades. I can’t count the many iterations I have consumed in print and on screen. This is the absolute best method of appreciating the various challenges and triumphs of the great detective. Not only do you get a brilliant review of the episodes, but the background knowledge in characters and screenplays is beyond belief. Simply enthralling.
