I’ve listened to a fair amount of rewatch podcasts, and while some of them are delightful, others leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. This podcast exceeds my expectations. I love the insight, the breakdown and the analysis of each episode. They have great guests come onto the show and each time the conversation is funny and interesting. It’s so refreshing to hear Josh, Craig, and Alek be so willing to take accountability for jokes that in hindsight are in bad taste. Josh is a real force and as a listener you feel like he’s always steering the ship toward relevance and genuine thought provoking conversation. He references so many philosophers, authors, and cultural icons, and coming from a more self-centered person that would be annoying, but Josh seems to be so honest and humble that I find myself feeling like I’m taking advice from an older friend. It feels like older Ted guiding us once again through life 💛

That sounds like hyperbole but it’s true. Almost every time it’s only hosted by actors, even some truly great ones. But of course HWMYM is made different. Having Craig’s perspective as a creator and writer alongside Josh’s actor lens provides a three-dimensionality that isn’t possible otherwise. This is an incredible gift to the fans, especially those of us who were watching since the first episode aired. Thank you Josh, Craig, and Alek!

I love How I Met Your Mother. So, so much. And I really was excited to tune in to this podcast to get more insight on the show, the themes behind it, and fun background stories.
Unfortunately, the podcast has become barely listenable. The two hosts keep interrupting each other that it’s barely a conversation anymore. Josh is a little bit more of a perpetrator of this, often not letting Craig finish his sentences. But this was on full display with their latest episode where they invited a writer, Gloria Calderón Kellett. Check the transcript - she BARELY could get a word in before Josh AND Craig would interrupt her or basically say all the things that we as listeners would have wanted to hear from her directly. It was so grating, it was infuriating.
Beyond that, the podcast could do well to dial back its self-congratulatory nature. There will never be any shortage of fans who send in clips and messages about how the show changed their lives. And I understand that Josh and Craig tend to enjoying philosophizing and finding the beauty in the more innocuous and ordinary aspects of life. But the irony is that they’ve intentionally positioned themselves apart from other rewatch podcasts that give us a closer look into a show’s writing, producing, and filming to the point that they rob of us the very humanizing stories that HIMYM explored in the first place.

Great podcast idea. Could do without all the political jabs just cause you don’t like Trump & the fact you feel compelled to apologize for anything that isn’t politically correct now that wasn’t back then. HIMYM is a great show. No show is perfect, but realize that it is a show that reaches many people for many different reasons. I assume the pod was meant to be a reflection & revisit of the show. Just keep it about the show.
