Great podcast all around, so interesting to learn about this history that is connected to our current day Asian American studies and experience, and to hear about the historian’s personal story. It’s necessary to look at the perspectives of those who write history. Well produced too!

I love how Charles uses music and sound in his podcasts. Charles has a brilliant ear for sound and how it can help tell a story. This podcast led me to remember a history class I took my first year of college — almost 50 years ago — in which the professor taught about the grand history of China. It was fascinating to me that I had never heard that before. It also connected with a recent interview I heard of Jimmy Carter in which he said he discovered poetry by looking at the small yet profoundly meaningful moments in life. Bravo, Charles and team!

What a great series! I very much enjoyed the vignette approach, toggling between big-picture observations about history and personal narratives about searching for meaning and identity. It was quite effective and helped me learn more about the endlessly complex story of this place where we live. Thanks to the whole team!

One more comment. As difficult as your challenges were in grade school, they also shaped you, forcing you to seek answers. The hardest thing as a parent is to watch your kid face challenges that you wish you could fix. Just remember that you all turned out to thoughtful and stand up humans. Challenges + love + the right kind of kick in the butt= awesome.
