Reminds me of listening to David Axelrod with a little Ezra Klein mixed in. No one is shouting but there’s thoughtful, believable banter. And it’s not so done and gloom. I just discovered this podcast and I’ll keep listening.

I’m a recently converted subscriber. I really like the experts they bring on particularly the military generals, for their honest opinions. There’s a casualness and honesty that I really appreciate in their shows. I don’t always listen to their episodes about headlines, because if you regularly read the news, you would know most of these stories. I prefer the deep dives.

I used to love this podcast when it was David Sanger, Kori Schake, Ed Luce and Rosa Brooks. It has undergone a steady decline. David only invites guests that agree with him and it’s barely about foreign policy or strategy anymore. It is the epitome of US narcissism where everything they discuss revolves around US policy or relates to the US election. David obsessively hates Netanyahu (fine) but fails to even talk about the geopolitics, he just cherry picks questions to his guests to ensure they criticize everything and anything done by Netanyahu. I’m not a fan of him either but the recent episode on Israel’s killing of Nasrallah and Iran’s strike against Israel was mind blowing. Such bad analysis, if it could even be called that. Concluding that Israel eliminated Nasrallah to impact the election (are you kidding me? Israel has actual threats on its border and that’s the angle you take?) not to mention Barbara’s all-around bad takes and sympathy towards the Iranian regime. There was no discussion of Israel’s strategic environment, the history of the Hezbollah-Israel conflict, why dismantling a terrorist org could change the strategic landscape of future of Lebanon. This show has become empty and political, and David’s direction is to blame. I turn to Rational Security for actual contemplative analysis.

I get that it’s the holiday season and you guys need a break from making new content, but as a new listener, it’s ridiculous that I have to scroll through dozens of re-releases to find fresh/relevant content. I’d rather just not have content for a few weeks. Re-releases are lazy and annoying. Wanted to listen but after several minutes, couldn’t find anything that wasn’t an irrelevant rerun.
