Host Leon Neyfakh transports listeners into the day-to-day reality of our country's most pivotal historical events, bringing to life the forgotten twists and turns of the past while shedding light on the present.  Benghazi unpacks the 2012 attack in Libya that left four Americans dead, including Ambassador Chris Stevens—and the ensuing political storm, which raised questions about America’s role in the world, established a playbook to weaponize attention in the social media age, and ultimately changed the course of U.S. history. Iran-Contra exposes a secret war, a secret deal, and a scandal that threatened to destroy Ronald Reagan’s presidency—until it didn’t.  Bush v. Gore recounts what happened during the contested 2000 election between Al Gore and George W. Bush, and the extraordinary legal battle that unfolded in Florida. What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

Overall, love Leon’s narration style and his choice of topics. Every season is so well organized, insightful, and engaging. The AIDS epidemic season in particular, is just the best of podcasting. However, I have to call out two areas that I struggle with: 1) the ADHD season was rough- uneven, less researched, and overall just falls short on a topic that desperately deserves more nuanced discussion. Lastly, his decision to interview Pamela Brown for the Benghazi season…. Someone who admits she lacks foreign policy experience in the episode…. Was just a bad decision. She is an idiot, full stop.

I’m a historian with a focus on American Queer history and I’m so impressed with the first season. A fantastic overview of the AIDS policy disaster. Great job!!

Apis13 · Jul 2025

I grew up as a child of the 80s and AIDS was everywhere but your report gave me a whole new insight into the history of how it was treated and actions taken or lack of. Looking forward to the next topic.

Pin2 · Mar 2024

The extremely important story of AIDS in American is given the dignity it deserves with incredible research and storytelling at its finest. A must-listen — I cannot recommend more highly

bam526 · Sep 2022

I didn’t expect that you’d upload only a partial season without letting people know. It’s a very interesting subject and I feel like you should have made the limited episodes part more clear at the beginning in ITunes so people know what they’re starting. You refer to it as “Season 1” but it would be more accurate to say “3 free episodes of 11”
