OC Native John Phillips brings wit, political connections and insight to “The John Phillips Show”. Phillips began his radio career as the youngest major-market radio talk show host in the country. He is also CNN political commentator, a columnist for The Orange County Register and makes regular appearances on cable news.
John was formerly a sports anchor and executive producer for “McIntyre in the Morning”, producer for “The Al Rantel Show”, news writer for the KNX Morning News with Frank Mottek and Gail Eichenthal, and a guest host on virtually every show ever cancelled by KABC.
Though in his mid-thirties he is a ten-year veteran of KABC

John & Randy are entertaining and informative. Their specialty is California statewide politics as well as more local Southern California politics.
Their regular interviews are very interesting and worth a listen. They don’t take themselves or California politics too seriously; and since we are a very blue supermajority state, it’s a wise perspective.

I unfortunately stumbled across the live show and was immediately struck by how this show is the lowest rung on the rage bait media ladder. It feels like the audio equivalent of a rage room for the elderly as its host plays on their fears, rage and inability to understand an ever-changing world.
One of the segments I had the misfortune to listen to was about crime stats presented by a city politician. The host and a very passionate if not slightly unhinged guest talked about how this politician is not presenting the crime rate stats honestly then they back this assertion up with nothing but their “feelings”. They “feel” crime is the same if not worse. They offered no sources just vibes and a “trust me bro” mentality.
Then they talk about how they aren’t driven by emotion as I can virtually feel the spittle and hurt from the guest as he rants into the staticky void. It broke my heart to hear elderly caller after elderly caller fall for the shoddy product this show offers. It’s like the symbiotic relationship between the sun fish and the seagull. The host of this “show” is the sun fish, rising to the surface of the ocean to allow the sea gulls to mindlessly gorge themselves on its parasite-ridden body. Admittedly, this analogy isn’t perfect because in nature, the sun fish is clean after this process.
I guess I take solace knowing this live show is on AM radio so no one who is born before 1970 will ever be aware of its existence. Never trust a show that makes a bold claim that it has “wit” in the first line its description.

Been listening for almost 3 years and since my girl Jillian left I stayed tuned but wow...
every time I tune in, it’s all complain, complain, complain from John and of course Randy agrees to everything.
I really like you guys; informative, funny etc but I just can’t with all the complaining anymore. I’ll check back next year in hopes the program changes.
Side note: if you hate California so much, just leave. No?
