Rummage sets the standard when it comes to history podcasting. His presentation is mellow and easy to listen to, with enough detail to satisfy and interest the curious student but not so much you get bogged down. The subject -- Napoleon, his empire, and the events and characters therein -- dwells both on domestic and cultural affairs as well as great battles. No flashy SFX (which I prefer), no machismo, and even-handed treatments and judgements on the occasion that Rummage makes any sort of judgement. His consistency over the years is admirable, and without a doubt, if you enjoy what you hear, you'll definitely enjoy the $2/month bonus features that focus on listener questions. I always listen to each episode at least twice.

Catnip for a history nerd. The most recent episode (122) covered the repercussions of Napoleon‘s first lost battle at Aspern-Essling. The personal impact of the death Napoleon’s only true friend Marshal Lannes. Then it sweeps to the secondary fronts in Poland and Italy. I subscribe to the bonus Patreon episodes which discuss smaller but fascinating details like the role of alcohol in Napoleonic armies, can’t followers, the lives of the female camp followers and the common soldier’s experience of battle in this era.

I often describe this podcast to friends as being almost in real time (as in, each monthly episode advances Napoleon’s life by about one month). That might sound like a drag, but Everett is masterful at pacing and hitting just the right amount of detail to keep this narrative fresh and interesting. I expect to be listening for years to come!

I’ve been a podcast listener for many years, and I can honestly say I’ve rarely enjoyed one as much as The Age of Napoleon. The narration is thorough and compelling, striking the perfect balance between depth and storytelling. I’ve learned an enormous amount—and been consistently entertained along the way. Highly recommended.
