One of the first statements in the podcast is, “Could Chris be innocent?” If you’ve already made up your mind that’s fine, but it’s not fair to rate this podcast on your mindset knowing the premise from the beginning. Most of the reviews state they rated it low because this podcast gives both sides a voice. So if you’re reading these reviews and questioning if you should give it your time based on the lower ranking, know the reviews DON’T reflect the actual podcast, which is very well done.

I’ve never heard of this case and found it to be very interesting. When I looked into it more in an internet search I was surprised how much information was in this podcast that couldn’t be found anywhere else…interviews, facts stories, etc that haven’t been shared except here that I can tell. I binged this! It’s an unnerving case that will keep you thinking about it and have you looking for more info.

I drive a lot for work. I’ve listened to around 50 of these types of podcasts as it’s my favorite genre. I can honestly say I am pretty savvy in the quality of these murder mystery style podcasts. This particular story is heartbreaking and you can tell by the negative comments here that sides are picked almost immediately just like Chris was judged and sentenced before even going to trial. I get it. What I don’t understand is how you can leave a negative comment with a low rating. Lauren Pacheco does a phenomenal job hosting. She speaks very well, her research is on point, her interviews are intriguing and she obviously cares about her work. She makes several references/disclaimers about Kimberlys family’s unwillingness to participate and makes it clear that the info provided is from one side. Great work Lauren. Already looking into your other podcasts:)

Murder in Illinois - I almost didn’t listen to this season because of the negative reviews. I almost quit listening a couple different times for the very same reasons others have expressed here. Due to the fact that Kimberly Vaughn’s family refused repeated attempts to be interviewed, only the Vaughns’ side is presented. So this endeavor seems very slanted right out of the gate, which is unfortunate, because many quit listening before hearing everything in its entirety. However, I decided to listen to the whole series in an attempt to keep an open mind, and I’m glad I did. I can’t say I like the manner in which this series was constructed and delivered, but it’s well worth the listen, takes a surprising direction and has given me pause for consideration in my opinions of this incredibly tragic case. Murder in Oregon - This case is littered with corrupt, despicable characters connected with the Oregon prison system and political landscape of the 1980’s. There’s little evidence of moral fiber or conscience on the scene. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the newly arrived, lone “good guy” in the Oregon penal system, Director Michael Franke, ends up murdered when he starts to clean house. This season is incredibly well done except Episodes 11 and 12 are a redundant rehash of what I’ve already heard. So I stopped after E10 and leaped to the final Update. Very interesting case with many twists and turns, expertly delivered. My jaw hit the floor on the most recent episode! Can’t wait to find out what happens next… (Season 1 was excellent, as well!)

UPDATE: Came here again to check for any new episodes and to read comments. I’m flabbergasted that people who haven’t listened to the entire series feel compelled to write a review. How do you expect to get the full picture after just a few episodes? I, too, was skeptical of Christopher’s innocence. I remember the news about this tragedy when it happened, and thinking he must have snapped. Hearing his parents years later talk about his innocence had me rolling my eyes….BUT, Lauren’s deep dive into the story convinced me to have an open mind. Be patient as the story develops.
