I listened to nearly every episode of the Carson Podcast and learned a tremendous amount of new things each week. Mark is always well researched, kind and humble. Great job!
I was thrilled to stumble upon Mark’s new podcast, and discover its broader scope but his same grasp and enthusiasm for the subject matter as his past pod. It also happens to happily fill the void left behind for me when Gilbert and Frank’s Amazing Colossal Podcast sadly ended.
When Mark’s Carson Podcast ended, it was like moving away from a beloved friend. Honestly, The Carson Podcast was a subject of or jumping off point for discussion of Carson’s legacy. Great guests from workers & secretaries to celebrity guests & guest hosts peppered the episodes. This was the podcast we looked forward to the most. When it ended, we were saddened & listened & to favorite old episodes. Now, there is again something to look forward to. Thanks Mark!
Mark Malkoff's knowledge of Saturday Niight Live history, broadcast AND initial 2-hour dress rehearsal version both, because he apparently spent the first half of his life largely on the standby lines for both versions, is staggering. He can discuss the minutiae of late-night TV history with an unparalleled command of the facts. On freevee Carson Show broadcasts, excerpts from Mark's Carson Podcast episodes now appear between some segments--he's become the official chronicler! As for one of Mark's standard questions, I'll add my own opinion: he frequently asks guests who might take over for Lorne Michaels, but of the 7 or 8 shows I've listened to here so far, no one has said the obvious: Colin Jost. He's the other lifer there, along with Lorne. (Perhaps the next several guests I listen to will all have said so.)
