What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

You cannot beat the vibes, hilarious banter, and thoughtful, intelligent takes. I would listen to Knox and Jamie talk about paint drying, because it would still be more entertaining that most other podcasts out there.

The Popcast is an elite, god-tier podcast. Truly, it is 1 of 1. Knox and Jamie are the perfectly calibrated mix of informative, insightful, and intoxicatingly funny. Imagine if your favorite English teacher had a pop culture conversation with your Math teacher AND YOU GET TO BE IN THE TEACHER’S LOUNGE. The quick wit, the symbolism, the context and also the calculated cuts of an assassin, all the while with SO MUCH care and heart. Knox and Jamie make a great podcast because they are truly great humans. I have listened for going on a decade and paid cash money for their top tiers of Patreon for years. When they introduce a new tier, I know the ROI will always far exceed any investment I could make. And invest I do. I consume every bit of content they create as fast as they can curate it. And it is no exaggeration to say they are a highlight of every week.

The Popcast has been my weekly listen for almost 10 years, and I haven’t missed a single episode since 2017. Jamie’s accent is honey to my ears. Seriously. If I’m having a bad day or a particularly stressful week, I can count on her voice and her delightfully reminiscent ADHD ways to be a balm to my weary soul. Jamie feels like the friend you’re secretly thrilled doesn’t have kids because it means you get to hang out and have an absolutely fantastic time with the best snacks. She will make sure you have the BEST time and, for a few glorious hours, you will forget you even have a family. She’s also insanely knowledgeable of the most random facts- the human equivalent of an exceptionally curated internet rabbit hole. I live for the moments when Jamie gets completely unhinged and inappropriate. I’m still holding out hope that someday she’ll launch a Patreon where she can finally say all the horrible things she currently has to keep to herself. I will subscribe immediately. I will pay extra. And then there’s Knox. I want Knox to like me so badly. Listening to him feels like I’ve somehow been invited to the cool guy’s house, only to realize approximately four minutes in that I am absolutely not cool enough to be there. He is so funny and quirky, and I genuinely want to understand approximately 40% of what he’s talking about. Cool AND smart? That’s Knox. Some of my favorite moments are when Knox quietly mutters the funniest thing I’ve ever heard while Jamie and Erin are completely missing it because they’re busy having a heated discussion about the sexiness of Alan Rickman. Those moments are GOLD. They make Knox feel wonderfully human, especially when he lets it slide because he knows there’s just no way to stop that train. The Popcast is basically my weekly appointment with friends I’ve never met. I love you all. Please never stop. P.S. Don’t sleep on Erin and Evan over at Faith Adjacent. I have stopped going to church and practicing Christianity years ago but still feel welcomed in that space. I do not exaggerate when I say that Faith Adjacent has helped heal my church trauma. With every ounce of appreciation in my heart, Angila McCormack

As someone who listens to a lot of podcasts (sorry Knox and Jamie), I can confidently say that The Popcast is my favorite. And it’s not even particularly close. This pod educates on things that entertain but do not matter, and genuinely never fails to make me laugh out loud with their superior witty banter and engaging intelligent humor. To all the folks who have been leaving 1-star reviews lately: Do us all a favor and admit you’re a Christian Nationalist and move along. We’re trying to protect the vibe here!

I’ve listened for a long time but oh my word, the ads are out of control. No other podcast has anywhere near this many ads, not to mention the constant plugs to pay them for subscriptions and add-ons. I also would no longer consider this a clean podcast like it once was. The sexual jokes are awkward and the digs at anyone who thinks differently than them are incredibly hypocritical.

I’ve been a long-time listener of The Popcast. I somehow stumbled onto it sometime around the episode about Tom Hanks. Which was maybe a decade ago at this point. When they started their Patreon I became a BFOTS. I paid every month for at least two years. I joined their AUA’s with a fun cocktail every month. Even made my husband join me for fun “Indoor Pandemic Dates” listening to their Lives. I bought the online streaming of one of their Lives and then I even went to one of their Live Shows when they came to my area - which is nowhere near the SE where they typically do them. When they branched out to The Bible Binge (Back before it evolved into Faith Adjacent) I joined along wholeheartedly even though I am a Jewish woman. I managed to join the book club and read multiple books and attended multiple live book club Conversations with Erin, Evan, the author and sometimes Jamie. As a Progressive Jewish woman I really enjoyed their content for a very long time. I appreciated their tweet in 2022 saying that they supported their Jewish followers after Kanye’s anti-Jew attacks really started getting loud. But then Oct. 7th, 2023 happened….and the shift in their tone and opinions immediately changed. For people that clearly know nothing about the complicated history of the Middle East (I am an Iranian Jew and Hispanic Jew) and certainly know nothing about the history of Pogroms against the Jewish people. They made sure to make their opinions very clear on their social medias and behind their paywalled content. I stayed because as a Progressive Jewish woman in a very progressive city I wanted to understand how people that I considered allies could so thoroughly misunderstand what both the Jewish people and all of the people in Israel have been subjected to for eons by Radical extremist ideology. I wanted to understand how they didn’t understand basic history. I tried to understand. I stayed too long. The things they have believed about Israel (which is just a dog whistle for Jews at this point) was so utterly heartbreaking that I am forced to conclude that their space is simply not for everyone anymore. Raising money for Gaza while clearly not caring whatsoever for Israel and the Jewish people. As a Progressive woman I just cannot believe that people that I once considered my type of people could be so thoroughly brainwashed by an ideology that is deadset on ridding the world of Jews…and then Christians.
