When a sheltered young woman, Catherine, finally moves away from home for college, she begins to investigate her family to finally get at the answers behind her father’s mysterious death, possibly connected to her mother, Barbara, who controls one of the largest trusts in the country and is an extreme narcissist. Being the child of a narcissist, I was naturally drawn to the premise, although the “science” is comically bad. The acting and the production values are acceptable, but the pacing of the story is much too rushed. It could be so much better if the writers took more time to develop the plot and the characters.
It’s worth noting that, if you subtract the commercials, each episode consists of about 12-13 minutes of actual content. That kind of says a lot about the level of effort that went into writing the script.

I Am Echo is thrilling and engaging. Well written and performed. Lots of twists and turns. I finished listening in one sitting. Cannot wait until the next story from this author! Have recommended this to my friends and family.

Was a good premise but the acting is pretty melodramatic, and way too soon as well. There’s no build up so the pacing is off. Also, it seems like whomever wrote this just found out about the meme/saying “main character energy,” and has grown fixated on it. Kathryn mentions it about six times in four episodes. For a person pursuing a PhD and who has had, presumably, a top tier education from the highest academic institutions in the country, you’d think she’d be more versed with a better vocabulary and means to contextualize how she feels. Instead, she appears to “echo” everyone else’s analyses ie immediately repeating her mother’s analogy of the greek myth. All in all, this had potential in plot but is pretty bad.
For a similar concept (a child or children uncovering corruption performed by their billionaire parent), a better well written and acted podcast to consider us Wondery’s Bad Blood. That one is much, much better at building up excitement.

The story was good, but everything was too centered on the main character. Every conversation is centered around just the main character and helping her figure things out. No other character is developed. It seems the very existence of everyone is to support the main character

You can’t be both badly written AND acted as a podcast. This show has no depth, the characters are lackluster, and the plot generic. I’m normally a patient listener and willing to allow a story to develop, but I only managed to get through the first 4 episodes of this. Maybe it would have gotten better if o stuck around, but I had to bail.
