In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the darkest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake. Great writing, great narration, great acting and great music! Horrifyingly entertaining. You never quite know what twist and turn is coming next and how a tangent will work its way back into the storyline like the evil tendrils of the alternative world it portrays. Not for the faint of heart!
I was introduced to this wonderful podcast by another favorite, Spooked, and was hooked. I immediately went to Old Gods to subscribe and listen to it all. It wasn’t long before I contributed to get the ad-free experience. I’m from the foothills of Appalachia, middle TN, and am entranced by the stories and storyteller.
I’m hooked! I love the way the stories intertwine and how excellently written each story is. Scary place to get lost in, but I’ll take it over my current situation. The music is great too!!
I heard an episode of Old Gods on the Spooked podcast. I was immediately hooked! I started at the beginning two days ago and I’ve made it to episode 33 so far! I can’t get enough of it! Such amazing stories and the narration is perfect.
As a resident of Harlan KY and I can say that Season 1, 2 3 were all incredible. The lovecraftian elements, unfamiliarity and mystery had me captivated. Unfortunately season 4 turned this series into a teen Marvel/comic tv series, all the monsters and entities went from being scary and unfamiliar to well understood cartoon villains. All the lovecraftian is gone now…and along with it went any semblance of what season 1, 2 and 3 had. I feel so betrayed by this podcast…yet it was some of the best listening I’ve ever had at the beginning.
