Documentary · Boise State Public Radio
by Boise State Public Radio
In 1995 wolves had been eradicated from the Western U.S. That’s when the Federal Government undertook its most ambitious, controversial wildlife project yet: bring wolves back to the Rocky Mountains. Host Heath Druzin and reporter Clark Corbin take listeners on an immersive journey into wolf country, tracking 30 years of wolf reintroduction in the U.S. They talk to the people who endured death hearts, gun shots and frostbite to help spark one of nature’s greatest comebacks. Thousands of wolves now roam across eight Western states. But a new war on wolves is brewing, threatening to turn back the clock to the bad old days of the Old West. Or the good old days, depending on who you talk to. Make a donation to support Howl today. Winner of the 2025 Rode Creator of the Year Awards in Podcasting.

I grew up howling at wolves in northern Minnesota and now live in central Idaho and I LOVED this podcast. I had no idea the huge roll Idaho and the Nez Perce Tribe played in wolf reintroduction. I loved the local history lesson! One critique- I’d have preferred if the producers had included that many ranchers graze on public lands for practically free. This is important for understanding the wolf-livestock conflict since these lands are owned by the American people and not the ranchers.
