What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

As someone who experienced stillbirth myself, my heart goes out to the women harmed by this ideology. I cannot imagine the guilt I would feel in addition to the grief. However they were vulnerable and preyed upon by two people who’ve convinced themselves they are authorities. Overall the journalists did an excellent job, but I was disappointed to hear them say a few times that they support all births, including free birth. They paint it as an issue solely with FBS’s extremism. Perhaps this was to not alienate listeners but a journalists job is accuracy and truth. The truth is that free birth is an extremist position even for those less intense than FBS and is not “usually safe for healthy women and babies.”

This show is poignant regarding two pieces of truth that these free birthers people fail to recognize. First is that a woman’s intuition is paramount and they are encouraging women to question their intuition because of how much they hate the medical system. Second is that cultures had wise women supporting birth throughout the history of mankind. Most births didn’t just happen without some sort of tribal support. Outside of all that free birth fails to recognize that prior to modern medicine giving birth was a MAJOR cause of death for reproductive age women. These journalists do an amazing job on this podcast.

I only recently heard about free birthing in a mainstream way through scrolling on TikTok. There was a woman, weeks past her due date, documenting her free birth experience… seemingly isolated somewhere in the woods. It was giving hippie trad-wife vibes. I had a long road trip and put this podcast on… I could not stop listening. I’m sure this podcast will save lives. What started as a movement turned into a dangerous brand. Well done 👏

Really love the podcast! I want to point out that there’s an issue with episode 4 - at the 20:50 mark, things jump around, and it happens later in the episode, too. I’ll go try to listen on Spotify and see if it’s just an Apple problem? Hope this gets fixed!!
