I’ve been waiting for this to be released for a while now and can say with dead certainty that it was worth it. Superb in-depth access and reporting, a large cast of colorful characters, and a spot-on sense of time and place, the first episode leaves me eager for the rest. So good!

Ah, and there it is, not even halfway into the first episode: Martha was flirtatious and “boy crazy”. Patriarchy code for “she deserved it.” This host and podcast clearly view the Skakels as the real victims. Disgusting. The host makes inappropriate jokes and described the suspect as “the family scamp”. What’s next? “Boys will be boys”? Also, the host’s absolute worship of Jeffrey Toobin and trashing of Dominick Dunne explains a lot about him. This isn’t about Martha’s murder. It’s about painting a wealthy family as the real victims. And there it is again…no horror over a grown man grooming a 15 year old for sex. It’s just described as an “affair” with the host making the point repeatedly that the age of consent is 16. Because that makes it all ok. And now…pointing the finger at Martha’s brother. Disgusting.

I got through the first 4 episodes then threw in the towel. The host talks very fast and there are sooooo many characters to keep track of and too many details. I couldn’t follow it and I wasn’t finding it compelling enough to slog through it.
