As the title says, I really really like this show.

I find the various podcast topics intriguing. It isn’t just focused on murder, true crimes or super natural. For me it stops it from being boring this way.

I like Julian’s interviewing style. He isn’t aggressive in his questions but is able to draw out the stories from his guests which some of them have been incredibly interesting and fascinating.

Some of his guests I have never heard of before, yet it surprised me at first (not now) how I still enjoyed listening to the podcast even though it was not a famous person being interviewed.

Lastly, why I really really enjoy “What It Was Like” is because of the questions that Julian asks. He doesn’t stick with the same old questions asked over and over again. To me his questions are thought provoking and inspiring. Keeps me interested.
Reminiscent of Andrew Denton whose questions in his TV shows were also not run of the mill and I really enjoyed his shows too.

Well done Julian and team. Double thumbs up from me. Keep up the great work.

Love the personal stories, interesting & intimate. Voice is calming even with some tough stories.

I am currently binging on this podcast and I love it! Each episode seems to be better than the last!

I just finished the double episode about the slavery scamming and I am in awe of the importance of your work here! What a way to give exposure to what is happening there!

Every single episode the interviewee will answer his questions only to be met with the host’s distracted almost predictable response of “yeah, yeah, yeah okay so yeah..” (checks watch). There’s no connection and it seems like a race to just get the answer and move on, and as such, it’s just brutal to listen to

Of this man asking Lily Phillips questions from his clearly judgmental perspective on sex work, to his obvious discontent with her saying that she enjoys this work and her explanation about her pretty neutral/positive experience w the 100 men, then to end the episode calling her a savvy political operator or whatever, basically saying that we couldn’t trust what this woman said about HER OWN EXPERIENCE, and then to host another episode psycho analyzing her with his girlfriend. Unfollow. Why invite a woman to share her experience only to completely question the validity of her perspective based on your own assumptions and judgments. The audacity.
