I have listened to the SGU for 15 years and I have come to appreciate hearing the truth about science and skepticism. Being a skeptic means getting to the truth no matter how hard, painful, or relation to your personal views. The open conversation about Evan’s departure was heartfelt and honest. Thank you SGU for not hiding behind pedantic statements. Keep up the great work!
I’ve listened to The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe since 2006, and it remains one of the very few podcasts I’ve never dropped. Few maintain such consistently high quality for so long. The production is polished, the discussions are sharp and interesting, and the cast—with Cara Santa Maria’s addition years ago—has only gotten stronger. What sets the SGU apart is its commitment to scientific skepticism as a method, not a worldview. The hosts examine claims of all kinds—scientific, cultural, or social—through the same lens of evidence, logic, and clear reasoning. That means no topic is off-limits and no conclusion is taken for granted. If you value a process-driven approach to understanding the world, SGU is both refreshing and reliable. Because the show applies skepticism consistently, it can occasionally challenge listeners’ assumptions, regardless of background or ideology. That’s a strength, not a flaw. SGU isn’t interested in telling you what to think or to simply be contrarian—it’s interested in showing you how to think more clearly and rigorously. For anyone who loves science, respects critical inquiry, or is simply curious about how to navigate an increasingly complex information landscape, SGU is easily one of the best podcasts available. It’s engaging, trustworthy, and remarkably durable after nearly two decades. I recommend it without hesitation.
Truth is so elusive. Nowadays, we need a show like this to re-establish facts. Science is king! Granted it is evolving each day, evidence-based facts are what restores order and sanity and wisdom in this increasingly deranged world that is easily seduced by myths, fantasy, and fallacies. It definitely separates the intelligent skeptics from the mesmerized gullible cultists. The hosts are smart, articulate, funny, very credible—and at the same time intellectually humble and humanly relatable.
Every podcast is filled with facts, science, critical thinking, and humor. I enjoy these so much. Thank you💫
Disappointing Decline I’ve been listening to SGU for nearly 20 years, and unfortunately it’s clear the show is no longer what it used to be. What was once engaging, curious, and focused on science has slowly turned into something political, preachy, and frankly boring. The tone now feels heavily biased overtly left‑leaning and it often prioritizes ideology over genuine scientific exploration. Instead of thought‑provoking discussions, listeners get predictable talking points delivered with little depth or balance. Long‑time fans stuck around hoping it would return to its roots, but the decline is obvious. The curiosity and excitement that once made this show great are gone, replaced by repetitive commentary that feels more like opinion than science. Sadly, it’s a shadow of what it once was.
Sadly what was once a great weekly science news show, the SFU has drifted into a left leaning political opinion show. Peri / Post covid the show has become overly partisan while proclaiming itself apolitical. If you are looking for a diversity of opinion this is not the show for you.
