The Opportunist - Podcast Rankings and reviews

The Tim Ballard story has a glaring omission- no actual human trafficking expert is interviewed. It’s easy to find one even though the field is littered with con artists like Ballard and OUR. Orgs that actually do the legitimate work can be found through Freedom Network USA.

I started to listen to this podcast a few weeks ago, and I’m hooked! It has very interesting stories that are hosted and explained really well with a lot of research done on each opportunist. I’ve been binging on exclusively this podcast for about three weeks. As a guy it’s hard to find a podcast I really like in this genre .

Update:
They have a new host which is decent, but they make you be a paid subscriber for most of the episodes now. Seems like a lot of podcasts want you to pay to listen now. Everything in life is turning into a subscription, I can’t pay hundreds of dollars a month to listen to podcasts I like.

The investigative research is great, however a bit hard to take seriously when BetterHelp is a sponsor. (They do not protect client confidentiality and are a data mining company). There was a hiatus once Hannah Smith left and it was a while before they released any new content. I very much appreciate the deep dive they are doing into Tim Ballard and how most organizations who work to end human trafficking do not respect OUR.

I don’t find myself as engaged with the recent narrator , that’s the only negative about the newer seasons.

The first several seasons with Hannah Smith and her production team were top notch. Smith was a legitimate journalist and storyteller. Her producers were pros. Now? Yikes. No production value. No direction. No clear storyline. The editor seems to be missing/drunk. Audio quality is gone. I feel bad for the new narrator — she seems on her own. For shame.

This podcast was very entertaining and interesting when it started! I look forward to every new episode! However, with the host change, it has greatly decreased in its reporting nature and objectivity. Now, every story has a spin and opinion. I would rather hear the stories than the host’s opinions.
