Thomas Gloom serves up, with every episode, just what you want in a podcast with all the best attributes: it is informative, entertaining, well researched, apolitical (rare these days), shocking, empathetic yet voyeuristic. Like most of us, Thomas wouldn’t have *done* the things he tells us about, but understands we are dying to know about them. Episodes are just long enough to be edifying without being pedantic. Where there is a lesson for history to impart, he reminds us. Thankfully there is an endless supply of the macabre corners of history. Enough for Mr Gloom to keep us enthralled. Some of the details he imparts may make your skin crawl slightly. Just enough to click “Next Episode” again..and again…😈. Thomas - good move with the Instagram post. That’s how I found you👍
These episodes are very well done! The production quality is good, the speaker is compassionate, knowledgeable, and a good storyteller with interesting content. He stays in theme with the spookiness of the material with his cadence and word choices. My only objection is that he sometimes makes up voices and accents for the people in his stories. It plays as disrespectful, especially since most people he voices are ethnically different from himself, which is in strong contrast to the rest of the podcast that seeks (and succeeds) to honor the victims and survivors. If I notice the accents stopping, I’ll gladly update my rating to the 5 it so deserves!
Clear, concise and easy to follow. Glooms attention to detail and accuracy along with a comfortable yet dramatic cadence really set this podcast apart. Excellent work worth a listening to.
I love learning about history, and this podcast gives you interesting historical info with excellent narration and production. My new favorite show.
