The History Bureau delivers a clear, careful, and compelling examination of the 1999 Russian apartment bombings. The episodes are rigorously researched, calmly presented, and impressively fair-minded, guiding listeners through a complex and disturbing subject without sensationalism. It’s a thoughtful, sobering listen that helps make sense of a pivotal moment in modern Russian history.

BBC at its story telling best. Brilliantly narrated with a persuasive cast of witnesses. A must listen if you want to understand the real Vladimir Putin.

I heard about this podcast on Saturday and binged it all the next day. I never knew about the 1999 apartment bombs, and I like to learn more of recent history. I was aware of the other Chechyan incidents but didn’t know what was the initial reasons for the hatred of them by the Russians and the time of the bombing last with Putin’s rise to power. Thank you for this history “nugget.”
