Sorry About The Kid

by CBC

How do you forget your favourite person in the world? Alex remembers everything about the day a speeding police car killed his brother. But his brother, alive? Those memories are lost. And now, 30 years later, Alex wants them back. In this emotional four-part series, Alex unearths his childhood grief — with help from family, friends, and a therapist who witnessed his brother’s death. What happens when trauma and memory collide? Sorry About The Kid is a deeply personal meditation on the losses that define us. Hosted by Alex McKinnon. Produced with Mira Burt-Wintonick (WireTap, Love Me).

What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

My life will be forever altered from hearing and following the story of Paul, his brother Alex and their family. The legacy of Paul’s life is so delicately, sensitively and seamlessly shared in this limited series podcast. It touched me deeply and I will never be the same. Thank you Alex for this raw and vulnerable work.

Alex does a phenomenal job making you feel as though you are right there with him and his family in each moment. What a project of love this podcast is, and I can’t begin to imagine how proud his family, friends, community, and farther are of him. An incredibly emotional and honest journey. It’s not hard to be pulled into every episode. I recommend everyone give this a listen!

The grief and loss in the family was palpable, beautifully written and told. I especially enjoyed the processing of the diverse feelings one feels when they lose a brother.

LaPicosita · Jun 2024

Shattering story so beautifully told. I ached for Paul’s family, every one of whom is so heartbreakingly real and each of whom tell Paul’s and their story with such dignity and honesty.
