As a ex-public radio reporter of 24+ years, I’m a rather restless and caustic critic of most podcasts produced today. (I’m no fun at listening parties.) This piece of work is a rare exception. The excellent writing coupled with superb and creative audio production make this a wonderful listening and learning experience. Lee Strubinger undertook a monumental effort in converting this complex and winding saga—into a cliff-hanging-listen that I could not turn off. It will win awards. I hope it also fosters more reporting like this in our state. Huge admiration for Lee and all those involved in making this happen.

Impressively researched. Concisely written. As compelling as any true crime podcast. What makes it stand out, however, is this is important journalism not just for South Dakota, but for anyone interested in issues of the law and ethics.

I wasn’t sure how this incident could be stretched to 9 episodes. It is way more than just a car/pedestrian accident involving the AG. I appreciated hearing more about Joe and his life. Expert explanation of the angle each group (legislature, governor, party) took in this situation.

It was incredibly informative and allows the listener to bring their own sense of justice to the table. Lee Strubinger and his associates handle the fatality with respect and does well to highlight the importance of accountability. Great work to all those involved in the making of this podcast.
