This has turned out to be a fun and engaging listen. Wide range of topics and guests, some unconventional takes - but sincere ones, not clickbait. I agree with some, not others, but I’m not looking for an echo chamber.
Very much appreciate how Megan simplifies the complex and always presents both sides equally.
The podcast answer to needing thoughtful, informed, analytical discourse, especially around contentious subjects. Excellent example for how to hear and consider varied opinions; how to respectfully disagree or agree with an open mind. Nice tone too. Highly recommend.
Thanks for bringing truly informed discussion to our ears. It’s a bit like My Dinner With Andre on topical issues. I eagerly await every discussion and love hearing from the WP columnists.
Listened to the falling birthrate episode and am disgusted by this guest. So, according to the guest, who is a man, women are only happier if they are married and have kids. And that women will want kids if their friends are having kids. Oh, and I guess the world is going to collapse if we don’t have more babies, and earlier! And the reason he is optimistic is because he is having more kids and he *believes* his kids will have kids. Oh, and his legacy projects will continue. Well, I’ve taught swim lessons to kids, baby sat, and helped with my siblings kids. May friends and coworkers can bring their kids around me all they want. It doesn’t make me want one. I’m single by choice and have found that I’m actually HAPPIER without a husband. Happiness is not dependent on your relationship status! Women don’t want kids because all the care/work/stress falls directly on them. We’ve witnessed our mothers and grandmothers go through this. Girls are seeing that this doesn’t have to be their future! We can take care of ourselves and have fulfilling lives with friends, family, pets, and hobbies. Our happiness does not come from men and having their children. It’s not for everyone, so stop fear mongering women into having children they don’t want because you think there needs to be constant growth for an already wealthy country that doesn’t care about living children in the first place. All that to say, this is just a right wing narrative podcast disguised in a non biased wrapper.
I was hopeful this would become an interesting feature. What it seems to be is “Don’t believe what your eyes are telling you.” Optimism is great but only when grounded by reality. The Post has dropped podcasts that delivered real insight and news and we are left with this escapist drivel. The Post can do so much better and often has. This is just a sad reflection of The Post’s decline.
