I’m illiterate… I could probably go on and on, but I’ll try to keep it short. I grew up in West Virginia, and reading just wasn’t something that was emphasized when I was a kid in the ’80s. Looking back, I probably had ADHD and a few other learning challenges that went undiagnosed. For a long time, I never thought of myself as much of a reader. I could pick up a book and flip a few pages and have a blank stare at the end. I had no idea what I was doing. Then as a military vet in my 40s I found myself watching my wife and kids disappear into books, and honestly… I got jealous. So I decided to teach myself how to enjoy reading and started consuming everything I could about books, reading, and learning. I found this podcast, listened to one episode, and I was hooked. I easily listen to 100+ podcasts a week, and this one is always at the top of my list. The production quality is excellent, the topics are genuinely interesting, and the host asks the exact questions I’m sitting there wondering about. Breaking down how books are written and where they come from is absolutely fascinating. Bravo, ma’am. What you’ve built at your age is remarkable. You’re in a class all by yourself. 👏👏

I’ve always found podcasts very boring and I never ever listened to them - until I found Off The Shelf! It is the perfect podcast to listen to when I go on walks. It brings me so much joy and comfort, and it feels like I’m hanging out with friends talking about everything in the book world. Even if I have no idea who the guest is, Morgann does a wonderful job asking questions that provoke stimulating and engaging conversation, and by the end of the episode you are left with a new perspective on reading/writing. This podcast is perfect for easily-inspired girls who love the booktok/writing world and want a friend to connect with about it.
