Quite a stunning story! It’s truly horrific and original and compelling. The mind-twists and nightmarish descriptions are well executed and it has a strong direction while keeping the listener feeling a little lost at all times, just like the characters.
So when I first came across this show I got through a couple of episodes and decided it wasn’t for me. But then the writer did The Silt Verses which was an absolute masterpiece of a horror audiodrama… so I came back here. And you know what? I am in Eskew also lives up to the hype. The horrors are chilling and disturbing, but the narrator is so soothing that you just keep letting him tell you about the horrors in Eskew.
I return to this audio drama for a full re-listen every year or so — more if times are tough. The rain-soaked atmosphere and elevated writing make it a delight (and a comfort) to return to time and time again. Wonderful, beautiful work. Thank you for making this show.
I absolutely love this podcast, the story is enthralling, the sound effects well-placed, but the changing of David’s voice actor was confusing to a point where I can’t tell if it’s a staff change or part of the story, and the female voice seems miscast. I can’t believe someone who sounds so shy would take on what she does. I also noticed a change in production quality that again - I can’t tell if is part of the story or just coincidence. Overall I’m totally in love with this story & am excited to keep listening, but I find myself really missing what I got from episode 1!
I’m not sure what all these 5 star reviews are for. This show is ok until the end, where it sort of just abruptly ends. Reminiscent of a TV show that gets cancelled mid-season and the writers have to wrap the whole thing up in 3 episodes. It doesn’t have much to say; the writing is fine (not good in the sense of “above average”) and the message is nothing new. The only character I particularly cared about was David but no one really got a good ending. Frankly, this seems like a show that became a part of the “Tumblr canon” so to speak and is revered for that alone. If you’re looking for a similar podcast but good, try The Magnus Archives (but I assume most people hearing about this podcast would have already listen to TMA). Just don’t listen to the 20 or so hours of this show.
While the writing and storyline of this series is actually quite good, the delivery makes this podcast mind numbingly boring. The only thing I find this good for is putting me to sleep as the constant sound of rain is quite soothing.
